Is it a girl's name or a boy's name?

Okay, my husband and I are having the typical "we can't agree on a name" disagreement. We're having a girl. He likes the name Rebecca, and I like the name Aidan. I found the name Aidan in two different baby name books, and both of them list it as a girl's name (of course it is spelled differently, but I think that the spelling Aidan is more girly). The problem is that most of the sites online list it as a boy's name. We're now talking about naming her Aidan Rebecca, and most people I have talked to like the sound of the two together. What does anyone else think?

I know that Sex and the City has it as a boys name, but I think it is cute for a girl. Did you ever think of adding a "y"...Aidyn. I always think that a "y" is more girly in the middle of a name.

Aidan, as far as I'm concerned is a boy's name. It (along with all its rhyming counterparts, i.e. Jaden, Kayden, Braden...) is way too common. What about Rebecca Aiden?

They DO sound nice together, however I prefer Aidan on a boy. I LOVE Rebecca. I could see Aidan on a girl becoming a trend though. There are a lot of female Hayden's and I think Hayden is even MORE masculine than Aidan is. If you love it, go for it. Just keep in mind that A LOT of people will always consider it strictly for boys.

Aidan can be either a boy or a girls name. Aidan Rebecca does sound very nice together. I like pairing a gender neutral name with a more feminine middle name for a girl. The only drawback for chosing the name Aidan is that it is VERY popular for both boys and girls along with many other -aden names.

Good luck!

I like Rebecca Aiden or the idea of putting a 'y' in the middle. :)

I love Rebecca. But since a good friend of mine has a boy named Aiden Sage, I have to with Aiden as being more of a boy's name. I don't particularly like different spellings, so I am not a fan of putting in a 'Y' to make it more girly. She would just have to constantly spell it for everyone.

Aidan is traditionally a boy's name, and is a very popular boy's name right now, although I've heard that it's becoming unisex. Personally, unless there was a compelling reason to give my daughter a tradtional boy's name, I would not put her through the hassle. Rebecca is a great name, and there's no confusion that she's a girl.

I have to say, although it may be being used on girls, Aidan is still a boys' name in my book. I don't think your little girl would really suffer any ill effects from sharing her name with male classmates, but it sort of seems unfair to the boys. After all, there are so many more girls' names to choose from :)
Have you considered Ada or Aida, or Adeline (Addie for short)? I think they have the same strong, clean sound as Aidan, but with a bit more femininity (which might just win over dh!)

I think of it as a boy name only

I know it's becoming unisex, but I would never use it for a girl, just my opinion

If you are intent on that, I think Ayden or Aydin looks more feminine
