Boys or Girls names to go with Oliver...

So I know its not common to place last names... but I'm having a hard time picking baby names that go with the last name Oliver because its a vowel.
I always thought when I had a girl, that I'd have an Emily.
Emily Oliver, sounds a bit much...
I'd like to use the name Cora as a middle name after my DH's mom.
Does that work? Cora Oliver? Emily Cora Oliver? Emma Cora Oliver? I vote no way... what are some other name that might work in? I'm a Sarah, very popular name when I was born... and I grew up as "Sarah S." in school :) I hated having my initial attached, but I know that is just how it is in school. I really don't want to use a popular name, but I'm also really against using really modern names... especially all the makayla's, kenna's, jessicas, ashleys, brenna's.
For boys names, I'd like to use DH's fathers name... James, even if its just a middle name. I really like Brayden, Bryden, or Brandon James, but I've worked with kids with these names. Is it too weird to name your child the same as a child you already know?
Any thoughts would be great :)
Sarah Marie :)

I like Emma Oliver better than Emily Oliver. Emma Cora Oliver doesn't sound bad to me, but I think others might not like that both Emma and cora end in -a. And I am surprised to say that I think Cora is a very pretty and unique name, have you considered using that as a first name?? Its a name that is growing on me as I type this! Cora Emily Oliver?? Just a thought :)
For a boy, I like Brayden James or Brandon James. I am partial to those names as I have a Brendan at home and am just drawn to those that sound like it.
Good luck!
Theresa
With the last name Oliver, I like a first name that ends in a consonant/consonant sound.
Margaret Oliver
Juliet Oliver
Kathleen Oliver
Karen Oliver
Lauren Oliver
Tatum Oliver
Megan Oliver
Brooke Oliver
Paige Oliver
I would avoid Emily - if you don't like popular names. There are a bunch of Emily's of all ages out there.
Have you considered using Corinne as a form of Cora to honor your family member? It seems to flow better with a lot of names. You could also use Corinne as a first name.
Margaret Corinne Oliver
Paige Corinne Oliver
Corinne Juliet Oliver
Cora would be okay with a few names too, but it's harder to match.
I think boy names are much easier to match with Oliver. I would avoid any that end in an 'er' sound. I don't care much for the BJ or the BO initials - potential teasing there.
Thomas James Oliver
Matthew James Oliver
Nathan James Oliver
Ryan James Oliver
Landon James Oliver
Colton James Oliver
Patrick James Oliver
I agree with pp - Cora is beautiful! I would totally be thinking about that as a first name. Cora Emily... (CEO can't be bad initials to go through life with, right?) very pretty. I also agree that consonant-ending names work better with Oliver, but I don't think you can rule out every girl's name that ends in -a, after all she'll probably get married someday anyway and spend most of her life with a different last name.
As for boys, I agree that BO as initials spell trouble. I was kind of surprised you liked Brayden and Bryden anyway when you said you don't like modern names for girls. If you like that modern surname-y feel in a boys' name, are there any family surnames you could dig out of the family tree? I always like those names best when they have a reason behind them.
HTH!
All the best,
Jodi
Well its funny actually... Bryden St. was the street my dh and I first rented a condo together on.
Brandon was my first nanny charge, and once I mentored a 13yo boy name Braydon James.
James being my Dh's dad.
In terms of the initials BO, :) Well my initials are now SMO :) lol and my brother growing up was BS... and boy was/is he the all round "know it all" type LOL full of BS!!! LOL
I loved many of those other name you all have suggested... its great to hear the ideas!! :) I'm adding to my list! Thank you and keep them coming!
Hi Sarah,
If you go with James Oliver for a boy, keep your fingers crossed he's a good cook (Jamie Oliver). That said, Jamie Oliver *does* have a great name, and you could always nn him Jem, Jemmy or Jack instead.
Emily has been the most popular name in the US for several years now, and trust me it's the same up here, I teach preschool in Ontario. There are five Emilys in the preschool, and unfortunately two of them have the same surname too. Emma isn't far behind: there are currently three. Yes, that means there are eight "Em"s in the (whole) preschool.
