Michaela or Mikayla.............

I opted for the spelling Mikayla because I like the nickname kayla and I felt Michaela looked too much like Michael. Do you think a nickname could still be kayla from the Michaela spelling and do you think people would know how to pronounce Michaela the proper way from this spelling??

Hi again,
Michaela is very well-known as a name, I don't think you'll have any problems with pronounciation (it really doesn't matter what the name is, at some point someone's going to pronounce it incorrectly- my SIL is Ellen Jones, can't get any plainer than that...and yet she was telling us that she was paged at work as "Eye-len John-ess"- and by someone whose first language is english, lol). I agree w/ pp that Kayla is still just fine as a nn :)

I like Michaela much better because that is the traditional spelling and I think it's much more timeless. THe Mikayla spelling may date the name in the future.
A NN doesn't have to be taken directly from the spelling of the formal name. My name is Michelle and my NN is Shelley, even though Michelle doesn't have a S. The same goes for Billy/William, Dick/Richard, etc.
I like the name, and it even made my girl names list. But I had the spelling of Makayla because I think it looks more feminine than the other ways of spelling the name.
