I like the name Eloise. Its a very nice name. As far as your friend is concerned, the next time she says "are you serious" and laughs, just stop her and tell her that yes, you ARE serious. Maybe she will get the hint. Yet another reason why I use this board to get name opinions instead of close family and friends!!!!

I adore Eloise, I've seen a number of people considering it on boards in recent years and tend to encourage it (no takers yet, as far as I know, though I have seen it in birth announcements two or three times). I suggest you tell your friend exactly how her reaction makes you feel. If it hurts your feelings, say so. Explain that you are quite serious and that she should be prepared to refer to your little girl without giggling. Tell her what you like about the name, and maybe have a broader talk about the kind of names you both like. You'll probably find that your tastes in names are very different, and if she sees that you are respectful of her choices, even if they are not your taste, hopefully she'll be more respectful of yours. Good luck, and stick with Eloise if it's a girl, it's lovely.

Eloise is nms, but it does go along with the Ella/Ellie names that are popular now. For me, it only brings to mind the mischievous little girl in children's books. However, if you love the name, then the next time your friend says something, you should respond, "Yes, I am serious. I think Eloise is a beautiful name, and it's one that I would love to give to my daughter someday. I'm sorry that you don't like it, but I do." Hopefully, she will drop the subject once she knows that you're not kidding.

Good luck!

The name itself isn't really my style, but I like that its different than the repititive Emily, Mckenzie, Rachel, etc. I agree with what someone else said, and just tell your friend that yes, you are serious. I think it would be a nice choice for a name as its unique and pretty. Its just not my style, but its still nice. Ellie is a cute nn for it.

I personally like that name. I named my fourth child Norah Grace and got the same remarks.
Go with what you feel.

I like the name. I have found out that when you tell people (friends, family) about the name you are thinking of before the baby is born they tend to not like any name you pick, wait until the baby is born, name it what you like and feel is best, then everyone will tell you how much they love the name, since people don't tend to be to critical once the baby already has the name. I for one love unique names, and have never heard that name before.

I love the name Eloise--just be aware of the classic Eloise character (of 50's book and recent Disney movie fame) who lives at the Plaza and has a very strong personality! If your daughter's shy, she may have a hard time having the same name.
