What do you think of this name?

My husband hates it.

Geralyn.

My father's name was "Gerald" and he passed away a few years ago, never to meet any of his grandkids. I miss him a lot. My middle name was "Lynn" before I got married and made my maiden name my middle name.

Anyway, the name has a lot of meaning, but what do you think of it?

And what do you think of the name Gracun? (Pronounced Grey-Sun). It has no meaning, but I think it's pretty.

Thanks!

Maybe you could use Geralyn as a middle name? You could choose a name whose sound your husband likes more for the first name, but still use a meaningful name for the middle name. I can't say I'm a huge fan of Geralyn on it's own, but I really like names that have family significance.

As for Gracun, I would never have guessed at that pronounciation from that spelling. Have you considered Grayson/Greyson/Gracin? They are pron. basically the same as your suggestion, but I think they are more easily recognizable. Grayson and Greyson are ranked relatively low in the rankings 273/1000 and 657/1000 respectively for boys. However, I know at least one little girl named Grayson.

My sister used to know a girl named Gerilee. Pronounced Ger (like Gerald)- a-lee. That might be a good compromise.

I don't like either...while I think it's nice you want to honor your father, I think it would be better to just use Geraldine (or even Geralyn) as a middle name. I would pronounce Gracun "gray-kun"...I've seen people used Gracyn for a girl, but I think its a terrible name, because its basically a misspelling of the boys name Grayson/Greyson.

I don't like Geralyn at all. Its nice that it has meaning to you, but the name looks very feminine and I couldn't figure out how you want it pronounced. I don't care for it at all. Gracun I like a lot, just not with this spelling. I like Grayson or Gracin. Its a nice name. Have you considered Wyatt, Colton, Reed, Emerson, Declan, or Austin?

I think that Geralyn is quite nice actually, and since it has such special meaning for you it's even better!

As for the boy name, why don't you just use the proper spelling of Grayson instead of making it hard to pronounce properly - I would automatically think that Gracun would be "gray kun" and poor child will have to constantly be correcting people! Grayson is a nice name tho!

Good luck!

I went to college with a Jeralyn: she was bright, spunky and went on to become an OB/GYN. I like it spelt with a J but that is just what I am used to. I think it is lovely and love the special meaning it holds for you.

I think Geralyn is kind of cute, especially since you are honoring a relative, but if your DH doesn't like it, how about using it for a middle name?

Or maybe Geralina for a first name? I don't know though, I think that has a pretty sound, but looks awkward on paper....

As far as Gracun...Gracyn, Gracin, Greysen, Greyson, etc had been VERY popular in recent recent... and I would think that people might not be sure how to pronounce Gracun and look to a similar-looking word for pronunciation, thereby pronouncing it like Cancun- either
Grah-COON
or
Gray- COON

Best of luck to you!

I'm sorry, but I'm with your DH. I understand the meaning of Geralyn, but I don't care for it. There's something about how it looks I think. I normally am not one for kre8tiv spellings, but what if you changed the G to a J, as in Jeralyn? I think that looks more feminine.

When I see Gracun, I think of Cancun, as will most people I think when they see this name. Why not Grayson?

I actually like the name Geralyn, its very pretty and unique and is growing on me even more as I type, and its great that is has special meaning. But if your husband doesnt like it that much, maybe use it as a middle name, Im sure he wont object to that and then you can pick a first name that has special meaning to the both of you. Well Good luck to you!!!!!!

Thanks everybody! I think the problem for me is that I'm not really crazy about the name Geralyn either! I do like it better spelled Jerilyn, but that doesn't really have my dad's name in it. Maybe I will consider using it as a middle name - I hadn't thought about that.

The name Gracun was also for a girl. I'd consider spelling it other ways, doesn't matter. But my husband doesn't like that one either.

However, he's come up with no suggestions of his own! I named our first daughter.

If it's a boy, it will have his name of course!

Anyway, thanks so much for the feedback!
