Question about spelling.

I POSTED THIS ON THE OTHER BABY NAME BOARD ON PARENTS SOUP SO PLEASE EXCUSE IT IF YOU ALREADY READ IT THERE. THANKS =-)

We've pretty much decided to use the name Macy or Maisie, but dh and I can't agree on the spelling. He want the mn to be Emmeline. There will not be a formal name...Macy or the other spelling will be it.

His thoughts are Macy is just easier to spell and makes more sense. My thoughts- with a mn that is such a classic such as Emmeline I think that the spelling of Maisie ( maybe more the "z" sound) makes better sense due to the fact that Maisie has more of the 1920's -1930's feel to it.... Macy has more of the Stacy, Tracy feel. I can actually live with either, but just want to know what you all think so should it be....

Macy Emmeline
or
Maisie Emmeline

Thank you for your help.

Oh! I absolutely adore Maisie Emmeline! I don't like Macy at all; it reminds me of the store first and then the singer. Ack to both.
I agree that Maisie has a very 20's feel to it (and I love that too!). I'd probably go with Margaret Emmeline, nn Maisie but there's absolutely nothing wrong with Maisie Emmeline. Maisie Emmeline is a winner to me!

I prefer Macy Emmeline. I think both names are pretty, but IMO with a less common middle name, I always like a more traditional/simpler spelling for a first name.

There has recently been a big consolidation of department stores and many stores across the country will be renamed Macy's. I think Maisie is cuter, but it seems nick-namey.

I think the z sound in Maisie sounds better and it looks really pretty too. Maisie Emmeline is a gorgeous name!!!

I find that the soft "s" sound of Macy flows better with Emmeline than the harder "z" sound of Maisie, because Emmeline is also a "soft" sounding name.

I like Maisie better than Macy, definitely. Although the Maisie I know pronounces it Mazy. I actually like that pronounciation better as it doesn't remind you of tracy/stacy etc. I don't know if that's how you would pronounce it or not. I think if you want it pronounced Macy - better to use that spelling and avoid the confusion. Otherwise - I definitely like Maisie!

I think Maisie Emmeline looks a little more "classic," as you mentioned. Also, there is an East Coast store called Macy's, so that would make me a little reluctant to use that spelling myself. As long as you like the sound of either, I would go with Maisie. Good luck in choosing! :)

I haven't read any of the other posts so I might be repeating...

Macy & Maisie are 2 distinctly different names. You touched on that when you mentioned the "z" sound in Maisie. But I believe them to be different names altogether. So first I would recommend you & dh decide which pronunciation you prefer. Personally, I like the name Macy better than Maisie. However I agree w/ you that Maisie fits better w/ the mn. That said, I still think either name would work but the most important thing is for you 2 to decide how you want people to pronounce your child's name because those 2 names will be said differently.
