DH is Argentine and I am American. We need a name for our future son (!) that both families can pronounce. We both really liked Eliot until (duh) we realized it rhymes with our last name. I am a Jennifer and always resented having the same name as 80% of my peers! He is a Dario, which I adore, but not in the market for a "junior" So, we're looking for unique, dually pronounce-able and won't be made fun of on the playground.
So far, here are the top contenders, though we are MORE than open for suggestions. I'm soooo impressed by everyone on this board!
Etienne (but can Americans pronounce it? "Ay-tee-enn" Or, will he be made fun of?)
Quite conveniently, it translates to my father's name
Savio...we made this one up. It translates to "sage" which I think has a beautiful meaning. DH is wrapping his head around this one.
Emmanuel...b/c DH is ever so proud of Manu Ginobili, an Argentine who plays for the San Antonio Spurs (I'm slightly rolling my eyes, but I do think the name is ok)
Thoughts? Suggestions? SAGE words of advice? :)

Etienne - I like this, but I do think you will run into problems wiht the pronounciation. It's nice that it translates into your fathers name. If that is important to you , post your DF name & someone will be able to come up with other suggestions, ( I'm not good at the meanings/translations).
Savio - I love this one, but is it a boy or girl name. I would guess girl, since it translates to Sage. It sounds similiar to you DH name which I think would be great for a boy.
Emmanuel- Like it, could have some great nn with this one.
Of your names my very favourite is Emmanuel, I considered it with my 2nd child.
Hi Jen -
I think Etienne looks like a girl's name. The pronunciation will blow most American's minds, I know I would have had trouble with it.
I think Savio is awesome - unique, reflects his heritage, easy to spell and pronounce.
Good luck - Deadra
Hi Jen,
I have had similiar questions because my husband is from Paris. I would suggest that you go with the name that you love. I'm not sure where you live but I am in San Fancisco and there is a very large international community where unusual names are the norm and people have no problem. Etienne is very easy to say if you hear it just once :)
I have never heard of savio but I think it's very handsome.
Emmanuel is nice too but I prefer the other two choices.
Good Luck
Etienne- This gets a no vote from me for two reasons. First, isn't this a brand of tennis shoe? Second, I doubt anyone will be able to spell or pronounce this name.
Savio- nice, but for me, it sort of lacks something, but I wish I knew what.
Emmanuel-As much as I'm sad that they beat my Pistons last year ;), I do like this one. It will be easy for either side to pronounce, and its got a great sound to it.
Here's a few others I like:
Julian
Sebastian
Mateo
Seth
Nathaniel (may be too common for you, but I absolutely love how its prounounced with an accent)
Christian
