Need traditional boy's name ideas!

Hi - I'm currently expecting our second boy in May, and I need some thoughts about boy names! We like traditional names - like Gregory, Andrew, etc. I'm not a fan of funky spelling names, *new* names or last names for a first name (like Cooper or Carter).

My last name is Sottile (pronounced So-teel-lay) and we'd like to use my middle name (Townsend) for this guy's middle. Our son's name is Ethan Mario (Mario is FIL's first name).

DH is Sicilian, I'm English/Welsh/Irish/German mutt. We're trying to stay a bit on the nationality-neutral side. Sean or Aidan Sottile doesn't really fit! Here's what I've come up with:

Andrew - my fav, but DS has a first cousin by the same last name who is Andrew, DH has vetoed
Matthew - a runner up for DS1. Probably our front-runner.
William - my grand-uncle's name. OK, but I don't like Will as a nickname.
Nicholas - I thought I loved this before I had DS1, but I don't like it now.
Gregory - I love this name, but it is DH's and we don't want to do Jr.

PLEASE HELP!

I, too, love Andrew. How about Samuel, Benjamin, Thomas, James, Simon, Patrick, Oliver, or Alexander? I like your suggestion of Nicholas. You coulf use the nn Cole. Ethan and Cole are nice together.

I love Nicholas Townsend Sottile, it just flows. The only time it will matter that it is long will be when he is young. I think the name is very mature and elegant.
good luck

All nice names. I like William the best. Call him William and forget the nickname. If you must use a nn and don't like Wil, there's Bill and Liam.

Good Luck!

I don't think of Nicholas as a traditional name, though it have been popular for awhile now.

I like William, though I just met a mom with a 4th grader William who has started calling himself "Willie". She is mortified! ;-)

I like Anthony Townsend Sottile

My Little Man.  His name is Kaleb Pershing - we call him KP.

I love Matthew and Gregory has always been one of my favorites

Nicholas is OK, I feel that it's awfully popular right now

William is "stuffy" to me - I've never never liked it

I like Andrew a lot, but I also wouldn't use it if a first cousin is named that

all that said, Ethan is a nice name, not real high on my favorites list, but I've never considered it a traditional name at all, more trendy, not that that matters if you want traditional now.

good luck

Hmm. If you don't mind alliteration, there's Stephen- Stephen Townsend Sottile sounds quite handsome. I think a pp mentioned Geoffrey already. Timothy, David, Henry, James, Oliver, Dominic, Marcus and Lucas are all very handsome too.

Oscar, Julian and Felix are all traditional (and very international- they could be from any European background) names that are being rediscovered, and would work...Felix Townsend Sottile? Very nice!

Go w/ Matthew. It's a wonderful traditional name that sounds great w/ your ln & your ds' name.
