older + more popular combos

I was wondering how an older name paired with a newer, more popular name would sound?
The example I am liking these days is Henry Asher. Unfortunately, our last name ends with 'er' and I think Henry Asher Hafer (long A sound) would sound funny. What about Henry Ashton?
I think Henry Hafer is cute. I tend to call my DD by her first and middle name quite a bit, but am not totally into double first names. What are your thoughts?
BTW...DD is Audrey Katelyn

I think pairing a lesser-used classic with a currently-popular and/or more modern name is often a nice balance. It does depend on the names in question, of course, so while I like Henry Asher, I agree with you about Asher Hafer being too repetitive (and Ashton is a bit too trendy for me at the moment ... I get a completely different feel from that option as opposed to Asher).
I'm not completely against matching fn/ln initials, but bear in mind that Henry Hafer also contains that same R sound, in reverse (-ree/er ends of both names). Added to the fact that both are also two-syllable names beginning with H, and that combo would also be overkill to my ear, unfortunately.
If you're absolutely set on Henry, however, and since you mentioned calling your dd by both names on occasion, perhaps choosing something short that would work well as a double name would help with the repetitiveness. Henry Jude Hafer, Henry Boyd Hafer, Henry Doyle

I'm with you on the name Ashton. I prefer Asher a whole lot more. It's all just hypothetical anyway...not wanting another for another couple of years! But I love thinking about names!
When we were prego with Audrey, we were going to name her Hanna(h). We both love the name, but I couldn't get over Hannah Hafer...too cutesy for a girl? (For some reason I don't have the same reaction to Henry Hafer!) And also with all the h's and a's....That's why I was preferring the Hanna spelling vs Hannah. Who knows. DH is so hard to please with names....he shoots down everything I suggest, but never offers any. Go figure!
Other names that are my current favs are Charlotte, Sophia, Ethan Avery, Brody, Seth, Sebastian, Hannah, Claire (as a mn), Madeline, Tristan, and despite myself...Makayla.
I always enjoy reading your opinions! Thanks!

Just had to say, Charlotte, Sebastian and Tristan are all wonderful with your ln (and in general)! ;) To be quite honest, I even love Michaela -- using the traditional spelling, reflecting its roots in Michael rather than incorrectly lumping it in with the popular "Mc-" Irish names, completely avoids the appearance of trendiness in my mind. Since you also love Hannah and have Claire as a possible mn, you might also consider Anna or Clara as fns.
All in all a great list. ;)

I agree with the pp, despite our disagreement on a previous post :o, you do always have good opinions and I too love reading them and hearing you name suggestions.
Thanks, Dena. I'm glad you enjoy the names as much as I do. ;)
On a sidenote, I just noticed you also had a daughter named Elisabeth, and I believe I used that as an example in a previous reply to you. Just wanted to apologize for that oversight ... I honestly didn't realize it until tonight. Sorry!

I really like Henry Ashton and I think it's a good fit with Audrey Katelyn.
No problem Kelli ;)
