So we're having baby #6 and we can't seem to come up with a name we all agree on. We have a list of top 6 names and then reason for shooting them down. I would appreciate some opinions!
Katarina - the CLEAR favorite of all 5 older children. I like it too. We were thinking Katia or Kaia for a nickname.
Graciela - One of MY favorites, the name of my Great Grandmother. Graci for short. DH isn't thrilled because Grace is the middle name of DD #2. He likes it but he feels it's like reusing a name we've already used.
Elena - We both really like it very much but DH insists all names must have a nickname and DH and I both dislikes Ellie or Lainy.
Veronica - My SIL, MIL, and DH's Grandmother's name. They are/were Nicky, Ronnie, & Vera. We were thinking of using Naia... which I know isn't really intuitive but TOUGH! MIL isn't sure she wants us to use it becuase we all have the same last name and she's worried about prolems arrising due to that. I think she's crazy but DH feels like if we don't have her blessing we probably shouldn't use it.
Tabitha - Another one of MY favorites. DH would want to do Abbi for short, I like that but I also like Tabbi (which DH does NOT like). My mother (and a TON of other people I know) say it's a "witchy name"... mind you from a show that went off the air in first runs in 1972 for heavens sake! I really love the sound of it though. It sounds soft and feminine without being overly "girly-girl" to me.
Alexandra - DH's favorite. He wanted to call her Xandi for short but that went with MUCH opposition in the families so he said he would want to call her Andi for short (I think for his Uncle Andy that passed away the very month we got pregnant with this baby). I'm fine with that. I don't absolutely LOVE the name, but I like it well enough.
So any opinions? I'd love to hear what people think. Oh and the other children's names are: Gregory (Greg), Emilia (Emi), Tessa, Patrick (Patch), & Benjamin (Ben).

Expecting #6 early Aug!

Katarina - By far my absolute FAVORITE!!
In terms of what goes best with your other kids' names, I think Elena, Veronica, or Tabitha fits best. But you don't see as excited about those names as your do others, so it doesn't seem as if those are 'the one', KWIM?
I quite like Katarina and love the nn's you have chosen, so that would GMV.

I like Katarina the best, it's very pretty! I think it fits with Emilia and Tessa particularly well. You might use Veronica as a mn, since it has such strong family significance.
Good luck with baby #6!!!

Thanks belle_petite for the siggy!
Katarina - I think this matches well with your other children. And, I love the nn Katia. The only drawback I see is that it's very close to your name, Catalina.
Graciela - Not my favorite on your list. It's a pretty name, but I don't like repeating any names among siblings.
Elena - Very nice, but a little close to Emelia. You could use nn Lena.
Veronica - I like this as a middle name option, but agree that it might be too confusing as a first name, since there are so many others in the family with the same name. If you do decide to use it, Rona is a nn option.
Tabitha - I like this one with your other kids names. My niece is Tabetha - and uses nn Beth.
Alexandra - This one is nice, but quite popular. I do like Andi as a nn, given the family connection.
First off, your other children are wonderfully named. I'm sure you'll find something perfect for this one as well. ;)
My comments:
Katarina - lovely name. Prefer the nn Katia (just a personal favorite ). I would be concerned this is too close to your own name, however, since you and dh seem a bit concerned about that (with Graciela/Grace and all the Veronicas). Still, it's a nice way to name her for yourself without using the exact same form of the name.
Graciela - I have to agree with dh on this one. I had a similar problem when naming our youngest Abigail, since our oldest's mn is Abrielle. Unrelated names, and most thought it was a ridiculous thing to be concerned about, so I got over it. LOL But since Graciela basically IS "Grace," I wouldn't do it personally.
Elena - Elle, Ella, Lena, Leni (like Lenny, not Lainey)? My favorite nn for Elena -- especially with Greg, Emi, Tessa, Patch and Ben -- would be Nell. Hands down. ;) Similarly, you might consider Eleanor or Elinora, nn Nora.
Veronica - I'm all for the non-traditional nns (see siggy LOL), so Naia doesn't bother me, but I would be concerned about using this when there are already so many of them in your immediate family (and not all of those even WANT you to, as your dh is worried about). Perhaps you could use a similar V name -- in their "honor" or not -- like Vivian/Vivienne, Viviana, Viola, Violet(a), etc.? NNs Vivi, Viv, Vi (vee or vie) or Lettie.
Tabitha - love Tabitha, and it's making a comeback along with many other old-fashioned and/or Biblical names (Naomi, Miriam and Lydia fit right in with more popular/common names along the same lines, KWIM?), so I doubt most under the age of 30 will PRIMARILY associate this with a witch (not that they don't know of the show, but they're not going to think you named her after it ). You might also like Talitha, an obviously-similar Biblical name literally translating to "little girl."
Alexandra - I don't absolutely LOVE the name, but I like it well enough. You said it. ;) If you don't love it, don't use it. Doesn't strike me as nearly as interesting as your other children's names, FWIW (the Alex- names are just VERY common for both genders, KWIM?).

Katarina - So pretty! If you and DH love this name, and all your other children like it, too, this may be the choice for you! I love Katia/Katja as a nn for it, too. Very cute, without being too juvenile. Katarina is also a name used in one of my favourite Shakespeare plays. :)
Graciela - This is nice, but if you already used Grace for one of your daughters, I agree it's probably not a good idea for the new baby.
Elena - This is a really sweet name, too. If you don't like Ellie or Lainey as a nn, you could use Elle, Lenny, or Nell. You could also name her Eleanor/Eleanora instead, and call her Nora as a nn.
Veronica - Sounds like Veronica is a major family name for you! My mother's family has a ton of Margarets, and many variations of the name, too. If you wanted to use this name, but everyone seems concerned about there being yet another Veronica/Vera/Ronnie/Nikki, you could use a similar name instead.
Tabitha - This is one of my favourite girls' names, too! I don't know if I could use it myself, though, because my mom used to have a cat named Tabitha when I was younger. Anyway, I love Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and one of the girls in that is named Tabitha. They all call her Tibby; I think that's a really cute nn (and less feline than Tabby, lol). I agree you shouldn't let the Bewitched references scare you off. Honestly, people still name their daughters Samantha, and I would think that'd be much more of a reference to that show than Tabitha. You know, what with being the main character, as opposed to a small child who wasn't around the entire run of the show.
Alexandra - This is really lovely, too, even if it IS very popular. One thing I love about Alexander/Alexandra is that there are so many nn options, but all of them are sweet. Alex, Alexa, Alexei, Xander, Xandra, Andie, Lexi, Lex, Al, Allie...
Anyway, my favourites from your list are Katarina, Tabitha, and Alexandra. :)
In order of preference:
Elena - Love this. Other nickname suggestions: Ella, Lena, Maybe with the middle name you can come up with a nickname you both like. (How about Elena Veronica with initials E.V. call her Evie for short?) ( I also like the similar names of Alina/Alena/Elianna - not as similar as Elena/Emilia)
Graciela - Nice, but I prefer Elena.
Katarina - I like the nickname options of Katia or Kaia better than the full name. Why not just Katia? Also a little too similar to your name.
Veronica - Love this, I like the nickname Naia. Not sure if you should use if MIL doesn't want you to.
Alexandra - Ok. I hate Xandi, Andi isn't great, but I like honoring the relative. I prefer Alessandra or
Tabitha - Least Favorite. I really dislike Tabbi. Abbi is just ok.
Good luck.
