For a girl, do you have alternatives to LaNell (my Grandmother) Catherine (GrandmotherIL) or for Dorothy (also GIL). I love these women, but not so much their names. What to do? All suggestions helpful!

For LaNell, I would probably focus on the Nell part, since the emphasis falls on that syllable...maybe:
Penelope nn Nell,
Penelope nn Nella,
Annella,
or just Nella? (I like Nella very much!)

With the Catherine middle name, there is so much potential. Catherine/Katherine/Katharine is lovely by itself, and so are variants: Caterina/Catarina/Katerina/Katarina, Catrina/Katrina, Katya/Katia/Kathia. Or there's just Kate...Nella Kate or Annella Kate would be adorable!

I love the name Dorothy, so I'd probably just use that. Or maybe Dori/Dorrie or Dora. Does she have a middle name that you could work with?

You are creative! I'm playing all options. BTW we call Dorothy 'Dot', which is totally cute for an 80 something lady. Thanks for the ideas. Keep 'em coming.

Nell is a nick name for Eleanor so:

Eleanor Catherine nn Nell(my dd *just happens* to be Eleanor Katherine nn Ella)

Dorothea Catherine nn Thea or Dottie- I think that would adorable on a little girl

Catherine Eleanor

Dorothy Nell

you could pick a name with the same meaning

Eleanor means: Light or God is my light othe names Hazel & Lucy

Catherine means: Pure other names that mean the same all the Catherine variants: Caitlyn, Katrarina etc.

Dorothy means: Gift

What about Linnea, Lenya, Nellie, or Lainey? Catherine would be a great mn with any of these- or Penelope, like pp offered. For Dorothy, I'd think of Dorothea, or Theodora.

I think Nell is totally adorable and like it on its own, or as a nn for Eleanor.

I love Dorothy! Alternatively, you could switch that around and use Theodora. They mean the same thing. If you're a nickname person, I like Dot for Dorothy and Theda for Theodora.

Nell is also a nickname for Helen, so you can go with Helen, Helena, Ellen, Elena or any variation of the name.

Catherine - I'm sorry I can't care much for the name or any of its variants, with the possible exceptions of Kateri (which I'm sure isn't related to the name at all), emphasis on first syllable, and the nickname Kiki.

Dorothy - How about Dorothea
