Just wondering what you guys thought about the name Amelie??? It would be pronounced Omelee.

In the virgin islands there is a place called Charlotte Amelie, which is where I got it from. A friend named her daughter Capri after the island in Italy and I thought of it because of that. We were recently in the virgin islands and that came to mind.

To me, this name is: familiar but not common; lovely and feminine but not frilly or cutesy; and will grow up well.

I think it's lovely...but I've had a soft spot for it ever since the movie came out. (French movie...got a couple of Oscars, if I remember correctly.)

So I think of pixieish Audrey Tautou, with big dark eyes and a naive look.

It sounds pretty but I have to admit that I wasn't sure how to pronounce it until I read your post.

I love it! It's really beautiful, and enough people have seen the French movie of the same name, that it isn't unfamiliar. (It's a great movie, too! I love Audrey Tautou.)

The only thing is the pronunciation. It seem like you are looking to use the more German pronunciation. Most people I know are familiar with the French pronunciation, because of the movie, so if you don't mind making corrections now and then, there's

That's funny! It's hard to type a pronunciation but the closest thing I think think of is...you know when you go to the dr and he says open up and say ahhhhh. Well, that is how I was thinking of the pronunciation. That's how I say my name ahhhhndreya. But a lot of people pronunciate it anndreeyah, it's all really silly such a small difference. Well that is how I am thinking of that pronunciation. Ahhhmelee. Which to me sounds the same as ahm-el-ee.
