Well that is a hard one for me. I have a daughter Cierra and love her name but I also like Sienna and thought about it as a name for this baby, but we dont know what it is yet and figured if it is a girl its to close to Cierra anyways LOL...
Now I have been seeing it a lot though on baby name websites so a lot of people are catching on to Sienna and Sierra is still pretty far down on the list popularity wise. Not sure how much you care about how pop. the name is or not but thought I would point that out.
I'm really not a fan of either name, sorry. Sienna reminds me of that gross brown crayon colour, and Sierra reminds me of mountain ranges and SUVs. Of the two, though, I guess I would prefer Sierra, as the mountain association is more preferable than the crayon colour, in my opinion.
Actually, last year Sierra and Sienna were back to back on the Social Security chart--Sierra was 168 and Sienna was 169, so they're about equal in popularity.
Sienna makes me think of the car-van with that name and Sierra makes me think of the mountain range and the beer- Sierra Nevada Beer. Sierra is very popular where I live in California and has been for about 15-20 years. Also, there is a song called "High Sierra" by a guy named Morris Taylor and a movie called "High Sierra" from the 1940s. Whenever I meet a "Sierra" and say, "Hi, Sierra", I immediately think of that song and start singing it in my head.
I think Alex, Alexandra, Alexa, and all its variations are fairly overused and personally, don't particularly care for the name.
I know two Sierras, one spelled Ciara and one spelled Sierra. I also know a Sienna and a Ciana (Pro. a bit different). I have to say I like Alexandra A LOT better, but it is very popular, expecially the name Alex. My daughter has 4 Alex's in her class (2 girls and 2 boys)
I actually have a neighbor named Siena (spelled like the city in Italy) who is almost two. I also know two Sierras. I go to the park a lot, and hear both or these names occasionally. While I don't think the names are popular, they aren't unheard of either. I don't love either of the names, but I think I prefer both of them to Alexandra. Good luck!

I don't think of any of those names as "common".
Not sure which I like better - Sierra or Sienna - but I like Alexandra a whole lot better than both of those!

Either way

definitely Sienna
Sierra was more popular in the late 80s-90s
Sienna is gaining in popularity, but nowhere near chart-topper status - you hear it a little bit here and there

I really like Alexandra with "LEX" as a nn to keep in line with your DD Mia. Alex, lexi, alexis, etc. are overdone for me.
Sienna reminds me of the vehicle too much.
Sierra is very pretty.
