How bad is the "Loose Lucy" thing? We love the name Lucy, but some friends have warned us away from it, saying she'll get teased. Were you teased? Did it make you hate your name? Do you like your name now?
Thanks!

I'm not a 'Lucy' but I have never heard of 'Loose Lucy' and I'm 34.

That is so funny - our older daughter is Eleanor, and Smelly Ellie never occurred to me. I'm glad to hear your thoughts, I've been thinking the same thing. I have just have gotten a bit spooked by one Lucia who said "Don't do that to her. It's awful." (she came of age in the '60s, if that matters), and a couple of former teenage boys (now men in their 30s), who said it would be all she'd be called in high school. Thanks again for your thoughts!

I've known several Lucy's in school and they were all popular girls - I've never even heard the phrase you're talking about.

Lucy is a GREAT name! Very fun & pretty. I say go for it.

My name is Jenna and I found out later in life there are a million ways to make fun of it (Jenna-tulls, Jenna-talia, Jenna Jameson the porn star, va-Jenna etc.) and I laughed so hard when I heard these things. Hey, they're funny! No kids ever came up with that stuff when I was little - everyone always said what a pretty name etc.

I know you'd hate for your child to be made fun of, I'm just saying that as the bearer of one of the most mock-able names in the book, I came out just fine! I wouldn't be any other name!! (Also of note, my given name is Jennifer - the #1 name for 14 years straight, of which I was born smack in the middle of and I have NEVER felt unoriginal.)

That said, I second-guess my choices for our baby left and right. I'm not perfect either I guess, haha!!

Long live Lucy :)

My 4 month old is Lucy Georgia Philomena and I have gotten nothing but compliments on the name. I will admit to being concerned about her growing up as a Lucy. It just struck me as a little girl name. However, I just loved it so much that we chose it. It is just a classic, beautiful name and I truly believe that any name can be twisted to be insulting as kids will do. So, I obviously and whole heartedly agree that Lucy is a stunning name. Best of luck.

Theresa,

Question about Leo: what sorts of reactions do you get to it? That's the top contender for our boy name and I'm just curious.

I have always been told how great a name it is or how strong it is. I have honestly never gotten a bad reaction. I was actually at a high school reunion recently and I was saying the kids names and his got a bunch of oohs and aahs. So I guess I did something right. Funny thing is, he was supposed to be Benjamin Leo and DD, who was 2 at the time, announced his name had to be Leo and not Ben. We figured that her life was going to be turned upside down so why not plus DH always wanted a Leo. So he was born with a head of red hair and Leo it was and almost seven years later he is all Leo and as strong and great as the name implies. Best of luck with your pregnancy. Sorry to go on about my little guy but honestly, it is a great name that has gotten him a lot of attention.

All the best,
Theresa
