I personally think you should keep the name,

Honestly, I think Devin and Gavin are too similar anyway. If that weren't the case, I'd say to go ahead and use it (1st who gives birth, 1st served IMO), but since they're so similar, I wouldn't.

I'm sure you've looked through all possible names, but here are a few just in case:

Colin
Cameron
Brennan
Camden
Owen
Lucas
Trevor
Landon
Carson
Coleman

Sorry this has been so stressful for you- I hope you find THE name soon!

first of all - I think Gavin and Devin are way too close to use for brothers - and then poor Alexis is out there with something completely different sounding from both of them - also (wow, you seem to have a thing for Vs - Gavin David is not a good combo with both of those Vs - V is one of the most unusual letter to find in any name, so when you have it in both it stands out way more than say, when both would have an L or an N or an R - letters that are much more commonly used everywhere

while I don't think you forfeited the name 2 years ago - I think you used a good alternative to it two years ago - I personally don't think sister should use it either because it's too similar to Devin, who is her nephew

so I say don't use it

here are some things I think sound good with Gavin and Alexis

hello!! to be honest-gavin and devin are really close sounding-i dont think i would use it-not because of your sister but because its too close to big brother. what about evan or calvin? or kevin? (i have a nephew named kevin david incidentally-lol). its your choice and i think thats the way it should be. if you want to use gavin, use gavin. your sister may never have another baby or she may have another girl. gavin may never be used by either of you. i would just pick a name you love, that your hubby loves-and then dont tell anyone until you deliver. that way you wont have to listen to "but thats MY name..." ftr, i was going to name my youngest dd kevin is she was a boy. i had it picked out. my sister in law got pregnant and had her son in mar. of 07. she used kevin. i may never have another kid and if i do get pregnant, it could be another girl. im not mad at her using that name-even though i would have liked to have it as an option should i get pregnant again. i got over it after she said she was using it-your sister will too if you use the name. take care!!

your kids are so cute! Personally, I think that you forfeited the name Gavin when you named Devin. Devin and Gavin are cute on cousins, but too much for brothers for my taste. I am totally the same way with loving the same sounds. I have an affinity for the "is" sound - some of my favs are Iris, Lewis, Avis, Davis...you get the point :) I do think that your sister was rude playing with your emotions regarding the name Gavin, but since she's pregnant perhaps we can forgive her :)

Here are a few suggestions:
Griffin
Harris
Beckett
Tucker
Carter
Corbin
Brody
Micah
Zane

Do you like any of these?

Good luck,
Brooke

I do think your sister was yanking your chain a bit, but I wouldn't pair Gavin and Devin, myself...too close for everyday usage, I think. So I wouldn't be worrying about talking them into another name, though I also do find the whole "giving" it thing a bit weird.

The way I see it you can name your child whatever you want.

If you are that in love with the name....use it! Your sister doesn't own the rights to the name Gavin and has no right to ask you not to use it because they MAY want to use it in the future. That's nuts!..... she WILL get over it...on the other hand, if you know that using that name would cause YOU to be upset, then just go with something else that's similar. Here are a few suggestions should you decide not to use the name:

Cullen

Mason

Ethan

Hudson

Justin

Roman

Logan

Dyson

Rowan

Donovan

Corbin

Keegan

Nathan

Owen

Valen

Warren

Harrison

Brennan

Jaxon

Nolan

Bastien

Callum

Dallas

Cross

Good Luck!!!!
