Okay, so this isn't about a possible name for a baby; it's about my older sister's name (she was born in 1965). Her name is Diahn, and I want to know how you think this is pronounced. I finally asked my mom this weekend why the spelled her name this way, and the answer cracks me up. But first I want to see what you think about its pronunciation. What say you?

Hi there,

That is an interesting spelling. When I first saw it, I thought it was pronounced like Diane.

Be interesting to hear how it is really

It's probably pronounced the same as Dianne but it looks like Die-ON.

My first thought was like a girl I knew in college.

My guess is that she wanted a feminine spelling for the maculine name Dion (maybe she was a fan of Dion and the Belmonts?) and didn't think of Dionne until later. I would pronounce it Dee-ohn.

I'd probably pronounce it Diane, although I wouldn't be totally convinced.

Be happy you didn't get Arla, cause that is a major dairy company

Funny. I've seen the name "Arla" here and it (naturally) seems incomplete to me, having been "Darla" my whole life. Darla is very uncommon here; I once had a roommate named Darla and it was in a community phone situation (one phone for the whole dorm-type building). When someone would holler "Darla, phone!" it was a FIRST for us to be able to say "Which Darla?"
LOL.
