help for my sister
9

My sister is expecting her 4th child...a girl who is due in 3 weeks.

They are 100% sure her name is going to be Neve Olivia, but they aren't sure how to spell it. (I know Neve Olivia is quite "V" heavy, but this is their last baby and Olivia is a special & significant name for them)

Neave

Neve

Neeve

Niamh

What do you think? is Neve the "correct" spelling? they dont want it to sound silly or made up

No, Neve is made up. Niamh is an Irish name and the only correct spelling. All the others are Americanized and since Niamh is such a beautiful name I would suggest you keep that way.

It depends...how gutsy are they feeling? Niamh is a bit complex for most Americans, but not inaccessible. Neve is the accepted anglicized form (and the one the quite-Irish Conan O'Brien used for his daughter.) I'd skip the rest.

Neve and Niamh are two different names to me. Niamh is a lovely Celtic name, pronounced "NEEV". Isn't Neve Campbell's name pronounced "NEV"?

I suggest Niamh. It looks the most correct.

Neve is the best spelling for this country - she will be consantly asked how to pronounce her name is you spell it Niamh - only real baby name addicts or people from Ireland will have any clue that's pronounced like Neve

Hers is...but it's not from Niamh; it's her mother's surname. Conan O'Brien's Neve is pronounced with the long e, and it is taken from Niamh. I remember watching an episode of Late Night where the two of them had a long conversation about it.

I like Neve. I think a child takes a lot of pride in their names Niamh will be constantly mispronounced. Just think when the secretary at the school starts rattling of the A honor roll students and mispronounces Niamh. That takes away that whole experience. I like names that are easily pronounced. Neve is much better, so what if it is Americanized if you live in America!
