I also love the name "Jade" it is one of my all time favourites, not only is it short and sweet, but so so beautiful and has a mysterious feel to it, i think its a timeless and classy name, bonus is that it
I actually have known a few little girls named Jade, so I don't think it's out-dated at all. It's familiar for many young girls as well, since it's the name of a Bratz character, so it wouldn't come off as strange to children either.
I don't think it was ever common enough to be trendy, and that's usually what makes a name feel dated to me. I knew a girl in college...probably 30 now...named Jade, and a friend's 10-year-old has it as a middle name.
I don't think I would think it was cute...I might think it was pretty, but that's better in my world. I'm all cuted out.
I don't think it's a "has-been" - it's kind of just been around for a while, got a little more prevalent in the last decade, but not a chart-topper. Among little girls I've been hearing Jada or Jaida more often.
I know one little girl named Jade, and know several little girls whose middle name is Jade, including my granddaughter, Sienna
I personally prefer Jada or Jade as a first name simply because I'm not a one-syllable person, especially on girls, but it's definitely do-able - not overly popular and not "old". for a 1-syllable name, you have to really have the right last name though - if you have a 1-syllable last name, then I'd say no for sure.
