We have decided to use Grady Maddox for our baby boy but we are having a really hard time deciding what to call him. Grady is both of our grandfather's name(both of whom have passed away) and we just like Maddox. Our family is torn some love Maddox and some hate it and the same for Grady. I don't want him to get Gray or Maddie for nicknames!!HELP ME PLEASE!!!

I would just wait until the baby is born and see what fits best!

Good luck,

I forgot to mention that our last name is Brown which is really my big concern with the nn Gray.....I mean really what kind of torture would it be to be known as Gray Brown!!!

How would being known as Gray Brown be torturous? The kid would probably love it.

If his name is Grady Maddox, call him Grady.

I would call him Grady. I honestly don't think people will think up to call him Gray on their own, but if they did, just ask them to please call him Grady. No harm done! How lucky that Grady was a family name. As far as family opinions go, I would just not discuss it much with them and then once the baby's born, they'll be fine with whatever you decide. No one will make rude comments about a name when they're looking at a sweet baby boy:)

is sounds to me here like you're naming your baby something you really don't like

Grady is just an odd name

if you want to honor the grandfathers - I'd use Gray in the middle - by itself, just Gray - and find a first name that you really love that has nothing to do with family

sometimes people get way too carried away with feeling they need to use family names - find a name you really like and that you WANT to call your child by

I think both Grady and Maddox are quite handsome, and I really don't think the nns will be too likely to happen. (Except around crazed family members...they're incorrigible.) Take both combinations to the hospital, try them out once he gets here...see what feels right. I don't think you're going to go wrong either way.

It sounds like you're getting next-to-the-last minute jitters. It happens a lot...makes you want to chuck your whole list and just refer to "the Baby" for the next 55 years. But it'll come clear--just don't let everyone else push you. You have their opinions; now you can make an informed decision.
