Marie
Mary
Mattie
Meredith
Miriam

Siblings would be Cora, Audra, Lyle, and Nolan. Please tell me what you think of these names...we are still brainstorming about middle names.

I also have a question - we are not religious. Do you think Miriam would seem strange or out of place on a non-Christian child? What about Mary?

Hi there,

I think that of the names you listed, Meredith is my favourite. I think that Mary and Marie are overly used and a bit "boring" in comparison to Cora and Audra. I also don't like that it means "Bitter", as do Mary and Marie. Mattie is nice as a nn, but I don't like it, personally, as a full name. Do you like Matilda nn Mattie? Some other Mattie full names ideas are: Amata, Mataya, Mattea, Matisse, Samata.

I don't think that it matters if you name

I like Miriam with the nickname Mira ... or you could just use Mira. I also love Maren with this sibling set.

Good luck!

I love Miriam, but I do have to admit that I would kind of assume that you were in some way religious (either Christian or Jewish, since we share the Old Testament.) I think Mary has (despite the Virgin Mary) less of that sense since it has historically gotten so much more usage.

Thanks...I like Meredith too. I can't decide if I really love it, though.

I have loved Mary forever and it matched with the middle name I liked, but recently I decided Marie seemed less religious and I thought maybe it sounded more sophisticated than Mary. I have been set on Marie for quite a while now but I am not so sure anymore. Mattie was my aunt's name and I like it, but I don't think we really love it. I think that name is probably off my list now.

I added Miriam to our list because it has sort of the same feel of Mary and Marie (I love both of those names) but it is more unique...however I don't know about the whole biblical thing. The other names we have chosen are basically not biblical at all...I think that makes Miriam seem out of place.

Thanks. Mira and Maren are nice, but I think if we used another two-syllable name, it would be Mary or Marie. If we ended up with Miriam I like Mira for a nn though.

I think I have to agree with you about the biblical thing. I am thinking that Miriam would seem out of place on my child because we aren't religious and also because none of the rest of my kids have biblical names. But I really like this name...it is so hard to decide. Thanks for your input!

They are all fine except for Mattie -- this is a nickname.
