We thought we had chosen a name finally, but then some people decided to tell me that they don't like it and that it's too old fashioned.

How rude of your family to outright tell you they won't call your child by her given name!

Somebody elses opinion is no more valuable than your own. As long as you love the name they will have to learn to adjust. And from my experience even when I secretly despised the names friends/family were choosing for their babies once the baby was born I couldn't imagine them being called anything else.

(PS- I think it's a beautiful name if that helps at all. And it's not old fashion, it's very current but maybe they just haven't been around young kids to hear the modern trends)

I say go with that name, anyway. I had a similar experience when I named my first daughter.

Madilyn is NMS, but Madeleine (same pronunciation) is nice, IMO. But the point, really, is that YOU like Madilyn - a name that is very "now," very popular, and not at all outdated. Stop talking about the baby's name with people!! Just literally don't ever bring it up again. There are so many other things to talk about. If they bring it up, say: "I can't make a decision until the baby is here." And change the subject. Then, when she's born, name her exactly whatever you like, and after the birth certificate is completed, tell the family her name. Whether they like it or not, it's her name. They'll get used to it after awhile. They have no business bullying you (which IS what they are doing, whether they admit it or not) about your child's name.

I think it's lovely. And, while your relatives might find it old-fashioned, it's really quite current and popular. (Which, with an unusual last name like yours, is not a problem.) And I think Adria is stunning.

Once the baby is here I'm sure they will think it suits her perfectly and won't be able to imagine her as anything else. I'll be honest, at first I didn't like the name my aunt and uncle

I agree with PPs, your chosen first name is lovely! And not at all too old-fashioned.

My last name begins with an "A" too, and I'm finding it hard to match girl names with the last name. I think that Adria is a nice name, but it doesn't seem to flow with your last name as well. Perhaps something that ends with a consonant?

Then again, a middle name isn't used as often with the last name, so it wouldn't matter as much as a first name ending with an "a."

I really like Madilyn and I will say that the grandparents will get over it the second they see that little princess!

No one liked our son's name but we stuck to our guns and used it.
