I am really going to CRY .... ugh !!!!!

  • DH and I agree on Ella as a first name. He will
  • not budge and wants Helen (NO OTHER FORM
  • ALLOWED) as the middle name to honor his
  • grandmother. Ella Helen sounds stupid. We
  • Both REALLY want Ella as the first name. So
  • my only option is to soften it by adding another
  • name which he is willing to do. The choices are:
  • Ella Helen Marie Henson

  • Ella Helen Henson

Awww...I feel sorry for you. Dont take it personal..But I have a hard time saying those names together....my tongue gets tied. Why not use Ella Marie Helen??? Because with Ella and Helen close together..its really hard to say.... And I can just imagine a small child telling someone her full name if someone asks. Helen would still be used as a middle name..just the 2nd middle name...

Have you considered using a different first name that Ella would be a nn for?

Yes, How about using Annabella, Gabriella, Arabella, Donnatella, Elizabeth, Mariella, Eleanor. If you are stuck on these names(Ella Helen), I agree Ella Helen doesn't work very well but middle names are rarely used anyway so if you love Ella then stick with it.

Hmm.. maybe Helen Marie.. or maybe combine Ella and Helen to become Ellen.. Ellen Marie Henson sounds pretty.

I feel for you...

How often would you call your daughter by her first and middle name? If not often or ever, why not go with Ella Helen if that's the first name both of you love. Just my opinion.

I like this suggestion! I think you can use any of these full names with nn Ella and mn Helen but I personally like Mariella Helen, Gabriella Helen or Isabella Helen (new, not mentioned above).

Ella Helene would work if you could get him to agree on that..

I still think you should name her Helen and call her Ella!

If it were me, I'd really consider changing Ella to another name. Is there any other name you've thought about?

I still think Ella can be used as a nn for Helen.. (Helen, variant Ellen, nn Ella) Maybe you should have your DH come read the boards here.. or post his own question and let him read the responses HE gets. Maybe that would make him think twice? Couldn't hurt any. Just for the record.. I grew up with 3 Aunt Helens (one my mother's sister, two brothers married Helens). It will always be an old lady name for me, but maybe my kids will like it! Sheesh.

Good Luck Dear!
