Mariel and Muriel are soooooo old - yuck. Maren I just don't care for. and Helle? what the heck - how about changing that to Halle as in the actress Halle Barry and you'll get a vote from me on that.

also you'd get a vote from me if you changed Maren to the much more feminine sounding Maura or Moira - can also be spelled Marah.

any of those three are much nicer looking and sounding than Maren.

Maura is pronounced like Laura with an M, Moira should be pronounced the same, (like Maura/Laura) but some say MOY-ra. Maren is pronounced like Karen with an M and Marah.. is pronounced MAH- rah... Maura is almost always mistaken for Laura (which is more common) Moira is an older lady's name. (all the Moira's I know are between 45 and 60). Eek! Maren is far, far, far prettier than any of the Maura's.. Laura's not bad though :)

JMHO, of course. Good Luck!

I have always liked Maren but have to say that most of the ones I know (Maren/Maryn/Marin) have pronounced it MAH-ren. It is very common in the north, maybe because of the Sacndinavian influence (I'm talking Minnesota/Iowa/the Dakotas...). I know several women named Caron/Caryn who pronounce it that way also.

Another consideration is that depending on where you live, Maren pronounced like Karen ends up very "nasally"...which may be why I don't like it as much!

No matter how pretty Helle may be to you, the rest of the world will always associate your child with hell if you name her that.

Muriel does seem old to me but Mariel doesn't at all. To me, Mariel is beautiful and stylish -- it got my vote!

I love both Mariel and Maren, but Muriel just feels like an old woman to me (funny what a difference one letter can make :) I have a niece named Mariel and have never run into anyone else with the name...I think it's beautiful. Maren is great too...both are feminine and not used often...

good luck!

I voted for Mariel - very pretty. I know a toddler with this name said Mary-el.

I do think Helle is opening up a lot of teasing potential, and like the suggestion of Halle or Helen or Helena.

I also wondered if you've considered Marion
