I don't know any young girls names Meredith...I know of one adult (35 yrs. old or so), and a family memeber who is college age. I love the name though :)

I have always liked it. I've only known 2 my whole life, one was in high school the other was a student when I taught at university. It's popularity is droping, but it might get a bump since the last "Bachelorette" was Meredith. From the SS site

Popularity of the name Meredith

Year Rank

2003 361

2002 360

2001 328

2000 296

1999 279

1998 283

1997 268

1996 241

1995 235

1994 236

1993 230

1992 205

1991 205

1990 197

I personally do not know any baby/child Merediths. However, I see it only polls quite regularly. According to the SSA:

2003 361

2002 360

2001 328

2000 296

1999 279

1998 283

1997 268

1996 241

1995 235

1994 236

1993 230

1992 205

1991 205

1990 197

So, it seems to be dropping in popularity for babies.

Just a side note, I do not personally care for this name. Someone once said they only see Merry Death, and no that's all I see as well. I just don't find it to be a pleasant sound.

I LOVE the name Meredith! I have an old friend with that name, and the name reminds me of a strong, confident, and successful woman (my friend Meredith is an awesome lawyer). I know the name Madeline has been used quite a bit, but I have always thought that Meredith and Madeline sound like beautiful names for sisters/twins. I say definitely use the name...your dd will be unique.

I think it is a name that is not common now, but will become common. It seems like ever since the last Bachelorette, it's been popping up on the polls. I think it will start to become popular, but it's not right now.

I think it is a beautiful name. It was on our "short" list 3.5 years ago for my last child. My dh ended up giving it the veto because he doesn't like Meredith Viera! I thought it would have been a nice way to remember myself and the other 20 family memebers who have the name Mary!

Best of luck with your decision.
