I love the name Mary - I don't know why no one uses it anymore.

I like Mary Lillian better than Mary Lilliana - the first name is so simple that the second name seems to overshadow it. So I like the more classic Lillian better with it. So I voted for Mary Hannah even though I don't love Hannah with Mary (although I like both seperately).

Just my opinion, of course!

Good luck!

Kittyhox, thanks for your comments. I see what you mean by Mary being overshadowed by Lillianna. My thinking was that since Mary is such a short name a long mn may balance it out. Mary Lillian is pretty. Thanks again. Michele

Mary is my very favorite name of all time. It goes so well with just about any other name! My dh's favorite is Hannah, so if you don't use Mary Hannah, I just might!!!

I like Nicole as well but for some reason I just can't stomach the name Megan. It just rubs me the wrong way!!

Hi Elizabook - thanks for the comments. If nothing else comes of this poll at least you may have a name for a dd!! It's great when DH agrees and everyone is happy. Thanks again, Michele

Funny, I think Mary Lillian sounds more library-ish, where as Mary Lilliana sounds more exotic. I'm not typically a fan of changing the spelling of names, but I kind of like Mary Lillianne (with an "e" at the end) a little better. :-) Best of luck to you!

I like Mary & Megan both, but Megan is so much more common than Mary. (Megan was #20 in 2003 according to the SSA, Mary not in the top 100.)

I think Mary Hannah is a lovely combo. I like Liliana, but it seems odd stylisticly w/ Mary. I think Nicole is overdone as a mn, plus I think Mary Hannah is adorable!

What do you think of Megan Mary? I realized that the first initial of my fn and 2dds fn's spells MEG so I thought Megan would be perfect for us and the mn Mary after my mother. I don't think it flows very well but both the names have meaning - I know Mary Megan sounds better but I've received feedback that it sounds like a nuns name (not that there is anything wrong with that) plus my dh likes Megan better than Mary. Thoughts?

I don't like Megan Mary because it sounds like Meg and Mary. I guess Megan anything could sound that way. Mary and Megan seem so different style-wise. I think Megan is one of those names that has one other acceptable spelling, which is Meghan. I like Mary Meghan better than Mary Megan because Meghan seems more old fashioned. Not sure if you're looking for something old fashioned or not.

What are your dd's names?

Hi Kittyhox, you're right! It does sound like Meg and Mary - I didn't even see/hear that. My 2dds are Emily Payton and Grace Kathryn. I see what your saying about the different styles but the mn is to honor my mother and as you can see from the poll, I've thought about dropping it altogether. My 2dds weren't named after anyone, they were just names I thought went well together and don't get me wrong I LOVE their names but I was thinking maybe the name should have more meaning besides just flowing well together. I don't think Megan Mary flows well together but they both have special meaning. Plus, the only time I use both fns and mns w/my other 2dds is when I'm mad at them. I think we would use the nn Meg (and Meggie for when she is real young). We also have a theme going with the girls' mns: they both end in "n" so I thought with Megan as the mn it would be perfect but as I've said my dh would rather it as a fn. The other theme is they both have "y"s in their mns and if Mary is the mn it would continue the theme. Not that these "themes" are so important - it is very subtle. So that's my story, thanks for the comments. I'm going to have to think about that Meg and Mary thing - really good point! Michele edd 9/1/04

Forgot to comment on the spelling of Meghan. Since our ln is pronounced differently than it is spelled, I decided w/my first dd to give our kids fns that are commonly spelt, nothing creative. And although the spelling of Meghan is not that uncommon, I see no point in adding an "h". Michele
