I voted for Miya, but I would spell it Mia. I think spelled Miya, people are always going to say My-a.

The name Amaya just reminds me of that stupid girl from The Real World on MTV.

I voted for Amaya. It is beautiful and exotic sounding. Next choice would be Mia without a "y". The "y" seems extraneous to me

I voted for amaya it is my daughters name I almost fell off my chair. Most people think it is quite different or weird. I absolutly love it but be warned people mispronounce it. We pronounce it a - my - a NOT a - may - a which is how people always read it. I thought since maya is pronounced my a that it would not get mispronounced and that is why we used that spelling, also it means night rain in japanese as far as I know. I suppose you could spell it amya to help with the pronounciation but I like the extra a in there, dh liked it the other way. We also have a name chart that says it originated from and african name meaning born on saturday( too bad she wasn't) I like the japanese meaning better. It snowed all night the night she was born so night rain kind of fits.

interesting to see it being considered! ( and getting votes too) btw how were you going to pronounce it?

Thank you for your input... I would pronounce it a-my-a. My husband is actually half japanese so i did select some of the names because of his ethnic backround. Amaya~night rain, Miya~sacred temple, and Kaiya~forgiveness. They were the ones with japanese meanings. by the way i love the name rowen too. well thanks again:)

Knowing right at the start that these were Japanese names might have affected the poll. Not knowing that, it looked like maybe you were just trying to make the standard Mia, Kaylin, or Kaia look "different" by changing the spellings. I probably still would have voted for Amaya because I do think it is beautiful. But..... I would have certainly looked at the other names more favorably than I did.

I voted for Malaijah, it is very pretty. (A girl in my daughter's class is named Mahala (Ma-hay-la), which is similar. I like that name also!) Best of luck to you!
