I like the name Merris if you are pronouncing it Mare-is, not Mur-is, but I really prefer the Maris spelling. I also like Amaris, but it doesn't have the MER beginning. Merry, would be my second choice, but it actually sounds like a nn for Meredith. If dh likes Merry, but is less keen on Meredith, you could always suggest naming her Meredith, but calling her Merry as sort of a compromise. Just a suggestion.

Good Luck!!

I don't know why I put Merris (Maris) on the list. Although I love it, we've elminated it because our last name begins with an S (Silva). So I don't think it works.

Thanks for your input!

I couldn't vote because I like Meredith so much more than any of the choices in your poll.

Oh Darn! No Merris ;) Oh well. Actually once I re-read your poll I saw that you had Merrin listed, which I love if you are pronouncing it Mare-in. I heard it the first time in that movie "Something's Gotta Give" and I thought it sounded very distinguished and classy. Marin was actually on dh and mine's beginning list because we wanted an alternative to Mary. We went with Maura instead, but Merrin really is a great name.

Good Luck!!

I prefer the 'Maren' spelling of Merrin.

I chose Merrin.

Merris and Merritt both sound like boy names to me.

Merrill would be okay of spelled Meryl.

Merry seems like a nn, not a first name, so I would use it strictly as a nn.

As far as suggestions go...

My personal choice would be something a little more feminissima, like Merisa or Merana, but it doesn't seem like that's your style. So, as I said above, how about Meryl? I would even spell Merrin differenly, however, maybe take out one of the "r"s? Make it Merin?

I also like Maren, however it starts with Mar-, not Mer-.

Best of luck to you!

Why must they start with M E R?? Meredith is the best still if all the spellings have to be M E R.

I don't care for Maura. Sounds a little dowdy.

I really like something about the Mer in Meredith. Which is why I've tried to find some other name that contains Mer. Maybe Meredith will grow on him.

Thanks for the input.
