Sounds like porn star???

I know it sounds terrible. DH and I have agreed on a girls name since the first time we discussed it a few years ago. The only thing is the order of names. If we have a girl her first name will be both names. She may or may not have a middle name to go with it.

Like you said, it's you and dh's opinions that matter the most. If your dd doesn't like her name, she can always drop the Rio part when she gets older. I would almost assume that would happen at some point, especially when she starts working.
jmho,
Shannon
Rio is a word in a lot of rivers and cities. I don't get your using it as a name. I think Teana and Alexa made for good sibling names. I just would really advise you to drop the Rio. give her a middle name that makes sense with Alexa, either something you like or a family name.
Even if Rio were an "established" name, it sounds like a masculine boys' name to me, probably because of the "o" ending. Would you consider Alexa Ria? Also, Rio means "river" in Spanish (e.g. the Rio Grande), so maybe Alexa River? That's not so much my style, either, because it is kind of hippy-ish, but I think it is slightly more mainstream than Rio.
Bottom line - I really like Alexa. Honestly, Rio would not my choice, but Alexa Ria/Rhea could be pretty. Unless Rio has a special meaning to you, or you really will be unhappy with anything other than Alexa Rio, I would consider some alternatives.
Good luck!
I think the problem is that Alexa Rio sounds really glamourous and the Rio part sounds a teensy bit made up (since it's thought of as a place name). Which I guess is the kind of name porn stars go for when creating their own names. When people get to know a person their name becomes totally normal, so I wouldn't worry about this branding your daughter for life! Maybe you could name her something and then use Rio as a nickname? Do you love any names that start with R? Also, if Rio has some significance to you (your family is from there, you honeymooned there, etc.) I think it's appropriate and you could explain that to people who balk at your name. Or just tell them to mind their own beeswax, they got to name their children, you get to name yours. That's what I say to people who give unsolicited advice about names (not on this board of course, where the advise is solicited).
If you really love it, I would go with Alexa Rio and not worry about the porn star comments. If you're not 100% sure you love it, or the comments bother you, I would find another name (maybe an R name and nickname her Rio).
On the other hand, I can see why you're getting so much feedback from family/friends saying Rio Alexa/Alexa Rio sounds like a porn star, as it does have a rather sexual sound to it, though I don't know why. Even without reading your post, if you had told me the name, my first thought would've been stripper/exotic dancer. I don't know about you, but I don't want anybody thinking that way about MY daughter, whether she's a newborn or 30 years old!
So my advice is this: Either A) stick Rio in the middle, so Alexa can choose to go by Alexa R. if she wants, or B) Keep Alexa but save the name Rio for your next pet, or houseplant, or shiny red sports car, you get my drift. I like a previous poster's suggestion of Ria instead of Rio. That doesn't sound so sexual to me.
HTH!
Jen
Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand
Just like that river twisting through a dusty land
And when she shines she really shows you all she can
Oh Rio, Rio dance across the Rio Grande
I think Alexa Rio would sound much better than Rio Alexa. However I agree with a the suggestion of Ria instead of Rio. I went to school with a girl named Ria. She was a ballet dancer and very creative. Rio just sounds masculine to me. If you are going for the "river" meaning, Ria would be a better choice, imo. The meaning is still the same only it sounds way more feminine and way less place-namey. If you did that, then I think either Ria Alexa or Alexa Ria would work.
Good Luck!!
Jorie
