Better name for Elizabeth - Lizzy or Ellie
- Our friends' new daughter is named Elizabeth (5 weeks old)
- They've been calling her Lizzy
- MANY of their family members have commented that they don't care for nn Lizzy
- DW prefers Lizzy and is used to calling her by this nn - but comments bother her
- DH now wants to change the nn to Ellie
- Should they:
- Keep the nn Lizzy (I like Lizzie better, but this is how she spells it)
- Change nn to Ellie

I think it's really cute!
Ellie is nice too but I have always secretly wanted to be called Lizzy by at least someone! lol

The term, btw, was very clearly Lizzy. I just Googled it and it confirmed what I'd been told.

I didn't think your post was rude, I have just always heard the term lezzy not lizzy.
why not Libby?
I just e-mailed her last night, "how do you feel about Libby?" It's so similar in sound and style to Lizzy, and would be a much easier transition than to Ellie. That is, if they change it at all. Her dh is already trying out Ellie, but my friend is still torn.
Just as background information, this issue came up when a great aunt or someone like that wrote them a congratulatory e-mail saying, "I hope you don't plan to call her Lizzie" or something like that, not knowing that was already her nn. Oops. So then they went around ASKING people what they thought about the nn. Most of their friends and siblings said they liked it fine. But for some reason, most of their older relatives, including the two living grandparents of the baby, said, "well, since you mention it - NO!!" So it wasn't as if people were going around giving out unsolicited advice, but they did answer more honestly than I did. I know my friend likes Lizzy, so I like it for her, even if I wouldn't have chosen it. They wouldn't choose my names, but I don't want them to tell me they don't like them, after the baby is already named, even if I ask.
Sorry to generate so much controversy!
