Okay .. he is a photographer we want to name our expected child if a daughter, Kamrah. Yes, it is pronounced like camera. Are our parents and friends going to freak or is it cute? Any help with middle names??

IMO, I think it's cute on paper...that's it. When someone in the playground hollers "Kamrah" I just would cringe. I think it's a great license plate name, or maybe a good name for a pet?

Sorry, but you did ask. Please don't hate me for being honest.

I'm sorry it's too much like Camera for me, which just doesn't say- we wanted a baby girl as much as- we wanted to take a picture. Maybe if you changed it a little to something like Kamara/Kamarah so it's more of a Ka-marah (Ka-mar-ah) sound and less of a camera sound.

When I read the discussion title I thought Kamrah was another form of Cameron/Kamron and didn't think of a camera until I read about he being a photographer. Kamrah is a different name and its a name that may have to grow on people but that just may be the beauty of it. I'm sure most of the feedbacks that you will get are going to not like the name, people like to stick with the normal. Also you may worry about the child being teased but every child can get teased, even the ones with a "simple" name. My name is Annie and I was teased all the time and till do, but I don't take it personally (Annie Orphan, Fanny-Annie...)I've found that people that leave messages on theses boards (not just the baby name boards) are very blunt opinions. Thats why I think that parents should follow their hearts when it comes choosing a name for a child and not let people change your decision, especially if you love the name it is special to you. If you love it your friends and family will too.

Middle names: Kamrah Renee, Kamrah Joyce, Kamrah Louise, Kamrah Lynn, Kamrah Rose

Best of luck to you!

Okay!

Well, I'm not too fond of naming kids after inanimate objects :) but hey, that's just me. In your case, I agree with a pp. Imagine standing outside your house and yelling for your child "Kamrah! Dinner!" What do you think?

Perhaps if your SO would consider this instead, use Cameran. That is Camera with an N at the end, and it is an actual name.

That's my 2cents! :) Cameran is a pretty name, for either gender, imo.

I believe Arthur Ashe named his daughter Camera for the same reason. While I don't like it as a name, I think it does have a lot of personal significance to you and is much better than just randomly using it as a name. That said, I think the spelling you have selected is atrocious. Camera is an uncommon enough name that the spelling doesn't need to be horribly mucked up.

I didn't get the camera reference until you mentioned it. To me it sounds like a nn. I would go with Kamaryn with nn Kamrah.

I think your fam probably will freak but will easily get over it.

One of my nephews is named Cade which I found very weird at first but now I like.

And my other nephew is Parker which I sometimes hated and sometimes loved but now that my nephew has the name I always love it!!

Go with what feels right for you and your DH.

OMG!

I have a friend named Amera! Sounds like camera w/o the "c". What do you think about that? It's close, and she's less likely to be teased.....

I think its nice when names are meaningful to the parents, however, this particular name will be a teasing nightmare for your daughter. I could see her having a miserable time in school with every mean kid saying "hey Kamrah, take a picture, it lasts longer!".

Its jmho, but I REALLY wouldn't do it. It's just too out there.
