Sarah or Paisley?

I loved Sarah growing up, but now I am worried it is way too plain. I often do think it is way too plain. I have been hearing Paisley somewhat for the last couple of years..I have met 3-4 of them now. But then I worry Paisley might be too unusual. I already have the middle name so using both is not a possiblity. Besides, I am not going to call them by both so why bother to give both. What do you think?

I khow what you mean - Sarah is a pretty name name bu ' been around so long it comes across as a bit plain/boring/simple - we all know a couple of Sarah's (and they're usually such sweet pretty little s!) I don't think it's as popular at the moment as Emily/Emma so there probably won't be 5 others in her class at school!I like names like that as middle names personally but you said thats not an option.

Paisley - I really like this name and don't know any yet! That would be my choice! (But I'm sure my dh woudn't like it!:( I'm having a hard time - he doesn't like any of my names this time...)

middle names for Paisley;

Samara, Brooke, Brielle, Kiana,

Other names similar to Paisley that I like (Incase you have the same problems as me! Gosh, we have the babies so we should name them!(big vent-aaah)

I also like the name Sarah but it is too plain for me. DH would never stand for it. He likes slightly different names too.

Paisley is a great name though. I really like it. I just asked my DH about Paisley and he said "it's alright." That's a guy for you. He barely has an opinion. lol.

I like them both but they are so completely different in style - it's hard to say. If you are worried about common then go with Paisley - I'm surprised you've met 3 or 4 because I've never even heard it other than on here. Sarah is a classic that would suit a girl/woman of any age (my only concern with Paisley - can you picture it on a 60 year old woman?) I guess I would have to know the middle and last name to really give you an opinion.

Best,

Sarah!

I just don't get Paisley. To me, paisley is a fabric type! Not a name for a child. I just don't get it... but hey, that's me.

I love Sarah! although I prefer it without the H. Again, though, that's my personal opinion.

Definatly go with Sarah. Paisley is the pattern on my couch, so whenever I hear the name I think of couches.

Personally, Sarah gets my vote. I have a dd named Sarah, and to me, it is the most beautiful name in the world. Every time my dd tells someone her name, the automatic response is, "Ahhh, that's so pretty." And it's not nearly as popular as it used to be. It is a name that ages well and is so traditional that it will sound pretty at any point in time.

Although Paisley is pretty, I don't think it will stand the test of time. It reminds me of one of those trendy names that is in for a while, and then dies out of use.

Sarah is beautiful. Paisley is, well, ugly to me. It's a pattern made popular in the 70s (& we all know how great 70s fashion was) & seems an odd word for a 'word' name.

If Sarah is too 'plain' to you, what about Serena or Sabrina?

Paisley is completely against my typical naming style, but for some reason I love it anyway!!! I think it is completely spunky, yet also mysterious. I'm not even pregnant, I just love names...but I don't know how I would feel about this name once the time came, lol. I mean, in one way, I can see myself putting it on the list, but in another way, I can also see myself saying, "no, my daughters have to have super-feminine names"...but what I might do is use a different name as the given name, but have the first and middle names include the syllables or letters that Paisley has, and then use Paisley as a nn.

Best of luck to you!

If you've met 3 or 4 Paisley's it doesn't seem like an unusual name for your area. I like Paisley. You might get raised eyebrows from people who like traditional names, but who cares about them. It is a bit unusual, but seems like it fits the current naming trends, so I don't think it's too "out there."

I honestly think Sarah is one of the most beautiful names of all, but there are a ton of Sarahs in this world. Of all ages. If this isn't important to you, I'd go with Sarah. I don't think it is plain at all - just very classic and pretty.

One thing to consider is other names you like and might use for future babies. If you love other girl names and boy names that are more unusual, like Paisley, I would go with that. If all of your other names are very classic and traditional, I would go with Sarah. So future siblings will have names that match this baby, stylistically.

Good luck!!

Just curious: for the posters that don't like the name Paisley, what do you think of Ainsley? I know Ainsley is more of a tried-and-true name, but to me it's similar in style (at least pronunciation-wise) to Paisley. And I know Paisley is really a word, not necessarily a name, but if "Ainsley" was originally known as being a print on fabric, would you dislike it?

It's funny, though...for me, I can't stand the name Ainsley...yet I like Paisley...I think
