Opinions on Fernley (for a girl)

  • I love it--as well as the nn Fern
  • I love it--but not the nn Fern
  • It's okay--as is the nn Fern
  • It's okay--but not the nn Fern
  • I hate Fernley--but I like the nn Fern
  • I hate Fernley and the nn Fern
  • Are you insane? Even a celebrity wouldn't be so cruel.

I voted for "it's okay." I want to like it, because it's sort of my style of name, and it's nice looking/sounding. But it just seems a little bit too made up. Similar to a name my husband came up with (he thought he made it up, but it turns out it's on some soap opera) - Greenleigh. I don't know anyone with the last name Fernley, but if it is an actual last name, I would be inclined to like it more.

Fern is very cute. You could name her Fern and tack -ley on at the end as a family nn. (I don't think nns always have to be shorter - with one syllable names, they tend to be longer). I know a little boy named Penn and we all call him Pennsley. It's just an informal family/friends pet name, (his friends and teachers don't call him that), but it's cute. So you could do the same with a daughter named Fern.

Fern also makes a nice mn.

Good luck to you!
