I think it depends on where you live. I know it's on the top name list, but I only know one person named Kayla. My daughter has no Kayla's in her preschool, daycare, or swimming class. We live in the Mid-West, and I don't think it's too popular around here. Riley and Hailey seem to have exploded around here, but not Kayla.

HTH! :)

Have you considered the spelling "caela"?

I don't think Kayla in and of itself is overly popular. I don't know of any babies or young children with this name (come to think of it -- I don't know anyone AT ALL with this name). I live in NY.

But I do think that names that are similar or in the same family as Kayla are popular. I'm talking about offshoots such as Kyla, Kaylie, Kylie... But to me, popularity is not a huge issue. With all of the names out there, and the ever growing variety, it's not like there's ever going to be 5 Kaylas in one class, you know?

I think it's pretty, I don't think that Kayla is too popular, but, for instance, Michaela (with all it's various spellings) is popular imo... I also like Kyla as an alternative, just a suggestion :)
