I like both Maya and Maia...I guess it depends on what type of "feel" you're looking for. Of course, my associations are probably different from yours and the rest of the world's, but here's how I feel about the name (either spelling): I see it as a Goddess name, so that is very appealing to me. The spelling give me a bit of a different view, but neither is better or worse than the other--I like them both:

Maya--I think of Native Americans and their heritage with this one, in addition to it having the "Goddess" connotation. I also think (if I remember correctly) I had seen a movie set in India and the character was named Maya and it was spelled like that, so I see the name in an exotic light. I like it a lot.

Maia--I think this spelling is used a little less frequently, but it's just as lovely. This name looks very close to the name of the Goddess Gaia to me, and Gaia is the earth...so I just have a slightly different connotation with it.

I don't particularly care for Maiah...it just looks like a little too much of a jumble of letters--not that they don't make sense together, I guess it's just that there are 3 vowels together, and then the "h" at the end, which is another "soft" letter/sound, so it seems a bit superfluous. Also, Maiah reminds me of Mariah, so I'd just stick the "r" in there, lol.

As for the suggestion of Mya, I'd advise against it. There is an R&B(?)-- (I guess that's what you'd call it) singer by that name, and I would find it a bit pretentious and "trendy" to be used now for an actual child.

Well, best wishes to you!
