Lily for a little Chinese girl. Is it too cliche'?

Yes, Lily is too cliche for a little Chinese girl.
No, but Lily is getting too popular.
Any comments?

You will be able to change your vote.

***edited to make the questions clearer. I hope anyways LOL ****

No, I don't think Lily on a Chinese girl to be cliche at all. Lotus would be cliche .

Lily is getting popular, but I doubt highly she'll be one of 7 or 8 in school. One or two others maybe, though. The popular names of today are being used far less often, overall than the popular names of the past were. In other words, an Emily today might find two or three in school rather than a Jennifer of the 70's, who would've had 5 or 6 other Jennifer's in school with her.

Lily is a beautiful name and I absolutely adore it!

that was kind of an odd question. Lily is always good for anyone, at least that is what have always thought. My friend just had a girl and they were thinking of Lily but then decided on Ellie. I guess it is sort of similar, and a little more fun than Lily.

I didn't quite know how to vote on this one, so I didn't. Yes, Lily is very popular, and if that type of thing bothers you, well, it's only going to bother you more once you've named your daughter that!

Is it cliche? No, though it does strike me as being more "expected." Is that what you mean? There's absolutely nothing wrong with the name Lily for a Chinese baby. Grace is another one that I think is rather expected (and extremely popular!) There's something cross-cultural about Lily and Grace and Rose and Annie, and perhaps Ruby that make them seem very suitable for a Chinese baby.

If you haven't already (and if you have, I missed it, so sorry!) you might try just asking for suggestions to see what some of the posters come up with as possible names for your little girl. A lot of the people here really know names very well and might come up some fantastic suggestions.

Here are a few off my list

Flora
Violet
Honor
Annabelle
Scarlet
Patience

These may not be your style at all, but I thought I'd share them.

I wish you the very best of luck! (Is this an adoption?)

Yes, that's it. I guess I didn't word the poll too well. Should have put in a yes or no too. Oh well. At least some folks get it lol

I might love the name Lily but I'm not sure I want to the the "usual" naming thing, kwim?

Yes it will be an adoption. Still waiting for hubby to say yes. In the meantime all I have to do is obsess over names. LOL

Thanks.

I don't think Lily is expected for a Chinese adopted daughter, but I for sure think Hannah or Grace would be expected!! We have been considering adoption, and it seems every other family I talk to named their Chinese daughter Grace or Hannah, or even Hannah Grace!

Lily is very pretty. You could also do Miriam (wished-for child), or Ruth (beloved) - and Ruth has nice significance if you are into the biblical story ("I will go where you go, and your people shall be my people")

Well, I know what you mean about Grace. Not so much Hannah. At this moment I know of 3 little Chinese/Korean girls waiting to come home with either the first or middle name of Grace. Makes me kind of sad that it is so overwhelmingly popular. I've loved the name Grace since I was expecting my daughter some 20-odd years ago. Gracia was a family name in her father's family and I thought Gracia/Grace would be lovely. Now I don't think I could use it.

Miriam and Ruth are very pretty names too. But they fall into the category of names that I like but not enough to use. They were both pretty amazing characters.

Thanks for the input. And best wishes as you think about adoption. It is an amazing experience to say the least!
