We were thinking Ida-Rose Amandine. Any comments? We got the name from Ayelet Waldman and Michael Chabon - the authors - we are big fans and just fell in love with the name - we didn't make it up and it's not a family name although Rose is my dh's grandma's name and Amanda is both my cousin's middle name and my g-great grandmother's name. Do you like Ida-Rose Amanda better?

Ida-Know ...sorry I couldn't avoid the joke LOL. I just like Ida-Rose without the Amanda actually.

No offense taken I hope, but I grew up in the south and Ida was a very popular name for mules there....

Just a thought if you ever get moved to the south :/

I prefer Amandine to Amanda. Ida-Rose is beautiful, especially if you use both all the time. I think Amandine is lovelier by far than Amanda. I know some people think of the sauce but I still think Amandine is gorgeous. Ida-Rose Amandine is a winner to me.. If I saw it in the birth announcements I'd sigh with pleasure rather than recoilling in shock (like I seem to do so often these days).

Probably not surprising to you that I, mother to a Lily Pearl, would suggest that you drop the hyphen and use no other name.

I agree, I love Ida-Rose Amandine. It is so special and original without being ridiculous.
FOrget what other people tell you about mules or food or whatever. The name is absolutly lovely.

I think Ida-Rose Amandine is a bit long for a name. So is Ida-Rose Amanda. Of the two, I definitely like Amandine better- it has a certain classiness to it that is just so attractive. I don't know why, but I think a middle name that starts with a consonant rather than a vowel would fare better. I think Ida-Rose Amandine is very...vowel-y, if that makes sense. It just seems like the vowel sounds are very pronounced. I would go with something like (just as examples)- Ida-Rose Michelle or Ida-Rose Lenore. (I'm not even a big fan of the name Michelle, but for some reason, it came to mind. Ida-Rose Lenore- I really love that... *shrugs*). Oh, and I would go with a middle name that starts with R or S, either...b/c it would be too close to the R and S in the name Rose.
Best wishes to you!

Oh, you're just so nice to ask - we're hopefully expecting but not sure yet. Possibly March. Yes, our son is Graham and he's nearly one. Thanks for the info on Ida Rose, I just love the name. We're toying with Ella Ashley now. For some reason the name Ella just came to mind - I love Pearl too - Ella Pearl is great - ah, so many choices, any advice, please send it along - Love your taste in names!! I have a cat Daphne and had a cat Lily so dh won't consider - some of my favorites - any plans for more? what would you name them?
