I voted for Katelyn. Even though I think it is so popular (but then again Samantha is as well), I see Samantha being shortened to Sam. I don't like the sound of Sam Yen.

Good luck!

thanks for the reply! with katelyn, although we like kate/katie, we actually felt kate yen was too short (like sam yen, it just didnt sound right), but we really liked katie ( but katie just seemed too informal to be an "official" name so that's why we went with katelyn so we can use katie as a nickname..it's just that katelyn seemed too "trendy" and we would have preferred a classic name..but it sounds pretty. with samantha, my husband liked the meaning and shortening it to sammie/sami... both names are ok to me, but not one is "yes! that's the name"...but we've decided to narrow down to these two...i never had this problem with naming our son!!! :P thanks again!!!78

If you're concerned about the trendiness of Katelyn, what about Katherine, Kathryn, Kathleen, Katrina, or Katarina? Then you could still call her Kate/Katie. Just an idea...

I like both Samantha and Kate, so it was hard for me to vote. I did go with Samantha just b/c I like the sound of Samantha Yen better than Katelyn Yen. The "-lyn yen" is harder on my ears.

Both names are beautiful, though. Good luck whatever you decide!

I think Samantha sounds better with your last name because it doesn't end in N.
