New idea for our girl. What do you think about Arabella?

  • Ara is a family name that my husband loves. I came up with Arabella?????
  • Like it!
  • Love it!
  • It's okay.
  • It's okay but it sounds too trendy.
  • Don't consider it!

It's not bad at all, as long as you don't mind the similarity to the other "-belle/-bella" names that are very popular right now. Not sure if you've already considered Aralynn (I've seen it spelled different ways, but you probably know what I mean) - that's another option that uses Ara-. HTH!

Read up on your Harry Potter. Miss Arabella Doreen Figg, neighbor of Harry Potter's foster family, is a dowdy, cat-obsessed woman who wears tartan plaid carpet slippers at all times.

Every little Harry Potter obsessed kid (and adult) in the world will immediately associate the name Arabella with a crazy old cat lady.

Also, in my crueler youth, I probably would have called her Areola. I was a snarky kid.

Thanks for the great advice! I am not a Harry Potter fan so I had no idea!!

I do like the Aralynn idea! I'll try that out on my husband.

Thanks!!!!

Any time someone needs Harry Potter-related advice, I'll be happy to give it ;) I'm glad to serve as the voice of all the Harry Potter addicts out there. The books made a lot of names almost off limits, assuming that your kid will be around other kids who read the books/watch the movies.

One of my friends is named Arabella and everyone calls her Abbey. She didn't like her name for awhile, but I think she likes it now. I think it's a beautiful name.
