Is Gunnar trendy? There seem to be a lot of them all of a sudden...
- Yes, I've heard it a lot too
- I've heard it occasionally
- Never heard it
You will be able to change your vote.

I've heard OF it, think I might have actually come across one actual person named that years ago - I would never consider naming a child something that began with the word "gun"
there's just no way, with all the violence the world today that is mostly centered on guns and drugs and often an awful combination of the two.
it's just a BAD name.
please don't saddle your son with that, regardless of what the meaning says, regardless of how "trendy" it might or might not be getting
I don't remember if I replied already or not (I did vote though! LOL). Just thought I'd mention that I don't think of the name as trendy at all (that I'd reserve for Mason, Jayden, Caden, etc.), although I have heard it mentioned a few times lately, so it's definitely not unheard-of. I actually knew a German couple considering this for their son, and it was a perfectly normal name for them.
Oh, and I don't think the Gunnar=guns association comes from simply the beginning of the name (so not quite the same as Catherine=cats ... more like Kat=cat, as you'll soon see). It's because the Gunner (spelled with an E) is the soldier or airman who operates or aims a gun (Mr. Webster will back this up, but I'm sure most people are pretty familiar with this term anyway, as you've already noticed LOL). However, also according to Webster, Gunnar (spelled with an A) is from the Old Norse Gunnarr: the king of the Nibelungs and husband of Brynhild in Norse mythology. So you're pretty likely to get a lot of people who think of the gunman, and as long as that doesn't bother you that's fine ... but I definitely wouldn't change the spelling to Gunner (then you're just asking for it LOL)! ;)

Yes, I definitely agree, it's not just that it starts with "gun" it's that I hear "gunner" that makes me associate it with violence. I come from a VERY military family (EVERY male member - and a couple of females -
Oh, Annie! You're post reminded me of my other comment! ;) Totally nothing to do with the name itself, but as soon as I saw the WARren comment I just had to laugh. I just watched Sky High with Kaitlyn, and the "bad boy" character's name was ... can you guess? Warren Peace!!! ROFL Have to say, I LOVED it! ;)

HAHA. That's fantastic. I LOVE when kids' movies/shows have characters with names like that. Are your girls fans of the Rescue Heroes at all? Steven LOVES them (and I actually like them, they're very wholesome and promote lots of good morals and characteristics without being religious). They are a group of non-superpowered heroes - fire fighters, cops, search and rescue, etc. and they all have names like that.
Jack Hammer - construction
Gil Gripper - aqua rescue
Sandy Beach - aqua rescue
Hal E. Copter - air rescue
Cliff Hanger - mountain rescue
Rocky Canyon - mountain rescue
Roger Houston - tool tech
Al Pine - arctic tracker
etc. They are fisher price toys that come with free half-hour videos, and the names alone during each episode crack me up.
ROFL! Those are some great names! Kaitlyn does have the Rescue Heroes book for her Power Touch, but not any of the videos. I do have to comment on Jack Hammer, though (hehehe). Let's just say he sounds like he might appear in more "adult" films as well. LOL (or maybe that's just the pregnancy hormones talking) ;)
