Beautiful name!!! Is it a common pronunciation? I have not seen it before. You may want to consider spelling it closer to the pronunciation unless the spelling has special meaning - like a family name.

Best Wishes!

I did not vote, as I could not get Ayla out of Isla at all. Saying it Ayla, I like the sound of it, but I just fear that very few people will know how to pronounce it and will say it as it looks.

Not sure if by writing "ayla" , I confused the issue - it's actually pronounced like you are saying 'island' but without the 'nd' bit - does that make sense??? More like eye-lah.

It's a Celtic name. Feedback welcome.

I get it now! I was saying it Ay-la, long A sound. I like it that way or eye-lah as well. Both are very pretty. I still fear that there are a lot who would say it Is-la, as I would because I would not know how to pronounce it. But that is very easily remedied once they are told how to say it, they shouldn't mispronounce it again. Pretty name though!

I love the name Isla. One of my old school friends was called this and I also know a little girl with the name who is such a sweetheart. In fact it was one of the names we considered for our DD (we chose Caitlin in the end). Grace is a lovely mn and is my own DDs mn too!

Good luck xxx

Thanks Mommyquris. No, it isn't my name - I have always liked it for a girl and so I chose it as my username to 'road test' it - thanks for the positive feedback.

Mummybebe

Thank you for your lovely post.

I also like Caitlin - I'm Welsh/English and my partner is Irish so we are biased towards the Celtic names. Good taste :)

Am currently 'road testing' Isla as my own user name to see if I like it.

The name is really pretty, but if you had not told people how is was pronounced some may not have known. I know I wouldn't have. I personally would consider a different spelling.
Good Luck

I only voted "like it" because from your explanation I thought you were trying to pronounce it like Aila/Ayla -- Aila is a also a Celtic name so I thought maybe the two were being confused). Once I read through the other posts, however, I saw you were indeed pronouncing it correctly, as eye-la (which I love and of course know how to pronounce, btw!). So just wanted to clarify that I would have voted "love it" had I known it was, in fact, the normal pronunciation. LOVE IT!!! ;)
