Hearing "Adrienne/Adrian" without seeing spelling, do think of a boy or girl?

  • Girl but I like both
  • Boy but I like both
  • Boy and I don't like it for a girl
  • Girl and I don't like it for a boy
  • I don't like unisex names like this

My Dutch father-in-law's name is Adrian so that's what I think of when I see it, an old Dutch man, lol. I don't like it for either gender. Another option for a girl's name could be Adrina, it has the same letters in it. ;) Lol.

I actually say these a bit differently. I assume I say Adrian like most would, but the -enne ending of Adrienne would cause me to stress that syllable a bit more, so it sounds closer to aid-ree-ENNE.

So basically, if both were pronounced like Adrian, I'd definitely assume boy.

I would pronounce Adrian and Adrienne a little differently, too. :)

Me too, I totally hear a difference. I definitely pronounce the end syllable differently and put more emphasis on the "enne" part for a girl. AY-dree-an and Ay-dree-ENN.

Adrienne = A-dree-ANN (accent on last syllable)
Adrian = A-dree-an (accent on 1st syllable)
