I don't know if you're familiar with the British comedy show Keeping Up Appearances, but it follows the lives of 3 very different but all florally named sisters. The main focus of the show is Hyacinth Bucket(pronounced like bouquet, according to her) who is constantly trying to appear better than her neighbors and trying to avoid being embarassed by her lower income/class sisters. It makes for a pretty funny show, but she's an extremely annoying character, and part of the shows charm is watching her get embarassed or her schemes fall apart. Your local PBS probably shows it, if you've never seen it.
Anyway, Hyacinth Bucket is the first thing I think of when I see that name, and because of the character the connotations aren't very flattering. I voted that it's OK because the name itself is actually pretty, but anyone who has it will be battling that image.
good luck,
Meredith
To me, the name is forever tied to the self-important Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced Bouquet) from the old BritCom "Keeping Up Appearances." I prefer the names of her sisters: Daisy, Rose, and Violet. If your taste in flower names leans toward the more uncommon, there's always...
Calla
Aspen
Bay
Iris
Hazel
Linnea
Flora
Laurel
Myrtle
Verbena
Olive
Tulip
Yarrow
Willow
Briar
Bryony
Anise
Acacia
Fern
Fleur
Marigold
Poppy
Posey
Magnolia
Rosemary
Sage
I am familiar with hyacinth, but as a name it just sounds like someone saying "Hiya, Cynth(ia)!" (Cynthia is my mother's name, so maybe a personal thing LOL).
I think it would be a lovely mn though!

Another Hyacinth Bucket association here. It's too bad because it is a pretty name, but I think a lot of people are immediately going to think of that show. The character is very snobby, stuck up, dishonest, and mean. And very, very funny.
Do you like the sound, that it's a flower name, that it's unusual, or all of the above?

Same here with the British sitcom connection... is that where you came up with the name?
Personally, hyacynths are one of my most favorite flowers. I love the scent and they remind me very much of my beloved Grandmother.
What would the nickname be, I wonder?
I was kind of surprised that so many people here have seen the show.
