I really like Scarlett, Eshter, and Hazel. I would not use Charlotte.

Violet got my vote (it is a family name for me, that I really love), but I also like Lila. Good luck!

I have forever (since reading Gone With The Wind) loved the name Scarlett, my favorite.

Scarlett & Esther are fantastic!

My comments-

Scarlett- I ADORE it. Be warned, though. It has JUST broken into the Top 500, so it's only mildly popular. BUT, it doubled in usage last year, alone! This one, I predict, is going Top 50 in the next 5-6 years

Charlotte- Parents tend to take the sound of names in phases. (Haley, Kailee, Bailey, etc.--- Brandy, Sandy, Andy, etc.) Charlotte is a phenomenal name. It's old but new, whimsical but sassy, sweet but sexy... and at the top of almost everyone's "short list" these days. There will be a lot more Charlottes in the next 3-5 years. Its only rhyming "sister" will be right on its heels- Scarlett.

Hazel- The sound of it alone is certainly pretty. But it just seems dowdy to me among the others on your list.

Ginger,
Your comments are very insightful; I actually have specific reasons for some of these names. Esther is my grandmother's name; I thought it would be nice to honor her. Charlotte is the feminine form of Charles; my husband's father died when he was only 5, and his name was Charles. My husband picked Scarlett; he absolutely loves it. The other three names, Hazel, Violet, & Lila just seemed pretty and not too popular right now. Thanks so much for your input. By the way, my husband actually likes all of these options.

My vote went to Esther, I think it is lovely and underused. People can pronounce it and spell it, but she will stand out. My thoughts on your other names:

Scarlett - very pretty. I worry about it being shortened to Scar
Charlotte - hugely popular around here, don't like any of the nns for it
Hazel - this is nice, but not my favorite
Violet - like this in theory, but I see it as violent every time at first glance
Lila - Love this, well I used to. It was tops on my list this last winter, but I have been hearing it more and more so it no longer sounds nearly as fresh.

ooops! I missed Violet altogether. I love the family significance behind Esther & Charlotte! It's also quite meaningful to give a daughter a name her daddy loves (Scarlett)!

Violet- This is rich and classy without being showy or pretentious! It has a little more depth than Lila without being as flashy as Scarlett or as heavy as Hazel. In fact, it makes a lovely sister name to Esther (for future reference, maybe). The use of it on Ben Affleck & Jennifer Garner's child brought it to light a little more, but people were already taking notice anyway. It's hard to find anyone who doesn't like the name on the boards(reminds of the way
