I voted for Luca. Luca Gray Drasin is fantastic. I see that most of the votes were going to Donovan, but I don't like the mirroring Ds at the beginning and Ns at the end. Donovan Drasin just sounds very heavy to me. You've already got the mirroring long As in Gray and Drasin, so I'd move toward something with a bit of a different sound for the first name. I absolutely love Luca. It's very masculine, while still being a good fit for a small child or an adult. I can picture a Congressman or a doctor or an attorney or a CPA with the name Luca. Love it. Love it. Love it.
As an afterthought, I also really dislike the nicknames Don and Donnie. Realistically, no matter how hard you try, with a long name like Donovan, it's almost certainly going to get shortened by the time he's in Kindergarten. And it's probably going to be shortened to either Don or Donnie. With Luca, though, the name is shorter, so it's not as certain to be nicknamed. And even if it is, Luke is much nicer than Donnie (which reminds me of New Kids on the Block, but maybe that's just my generation).
I too was worried about the nickname Don or Donnie. New kids are my generation as well, and that was the first thing I thought of. I was stuck on Cash for the longest time, but my husband was just not sold on it. Jude Drasin didn't sound right to me either. The D at the end of Jude gets lost when said with Drasin. Luca and Donovan were the only names we agreed upon. I would prefer to not have the nickname Luke (too common). My son's have fairly common names...Noah Avery and Gavin Sage..I wanted something a little different for this baby. Do you think Luca is common these days? Thanks again for all the advice. I will keep you posted.
Best,
April

No, I don't think Luca is too common at all. I don't know of a single one (except of course, the very handsome doctor on "ER"). And I don't necessarily think that Luca will get shortened to Luke. That's the nice thing about short names...there's hardly ever any need to shorten them further, whereas I can tell you almost for certain that if you name your child Donovan, he will be Donnie by the time he's 5, and Don by the time he's 25 (which is unfortunate because Donovan is a nice name).
Luca Gray is such a great combo, too. I'm completely sold on this one. Luca Drasin appeals to me, as well, because the strong C sound in Luca balances the strong D sound in Drasin. Donovan Drasin is hard to say, and too many of the vowels sounds are similar...the -van at the end of Donovan sounds nearly identical to the -in at the end of Drasin. It just doesn't have the same pop that Luca has. I think you should stick with Luca for sure.
Please keep us updated! I love Noah and Gavin, by the way, and Sage has bounced around on my personal list for a while as well. Great meaning.
i like nn Van for Donovan too.
for similar idea, Vance? not sure how flows with your ln. Vance Drasin.
also,
Joaquin Drasin (maybe similar to Jude)
