Hey! I usually really like the idea of a double name, but somehow Nora Charlotte doesn't quite do it for me. I think, perhaps, it's because they are both 2 syllables...I tend to like those double names that have names with a different number-- Sarah Catherine, Emily Grace (not that you should use those overly popular options; I'm just providing examples). Anyway, it's about balance to me and somehow, names with a different number of syllables seem to balance better to my ear. Good luck! And by the way, I love Charlotte...obviously, it's my little girl's name.

I love it! It reminds me -- stylistically -- of Sarah Charlotte, which is my all-time favorite double name. But I vastly prefer Nora to Sarah, so I like this even better!

After an internal debate, I voted that I don't like it as a double name. My problem with Nora Charlotte is that I think the OR in the first syllable of Nora and the AR in the first syllable of Charlotte emphasize each other and make the name sound weighted and slow. To me, the end result is that 2 names I usually consider both sweet and elegant sound harsher because they're next to each other.

I would personally pair Nora and Charlotte with names that have a "lighter" vowel sound, if that makes any sense. Names like Nora Mary, Charlotte Ivy, and Annie's Sarah Charlotte, are all smoother and flow more easily off the tongue--an important consideration with a double name, since you'll say it 50+ times per day.

I like both names but to me, they're both too "heavy" (lots of consonants and strong vowels) for a double name.

Lord, Annie, I cannot get over the cuteness of Baby Hank. I just want to squeeze him!

I'm glad you like Nora Charlotte. It's replaced Lila Charlotte for now. My Aunt Karen never had children but has miscarried 3 times. She's now stopped trying (age and health issues), but I think she would have been a great mom if given the chance. Her middle name is Lenora, after her great-grandmother (my great-great-grandmother), whose name was Mary Lee Nora. So, I thought that Nora would be a sweet way to honor both of them (even though I never knew my great-great-grandmother). As you know, Charlotte is after my dad, Charles. And you also know my Southern penchant for double names (i.e. Ruth Caroline...somehow, Ruth Caroline and Nora Charlotte just seem like the cutest little names for sisters).

Once I thought of Nora Charlotte, it never even occurred to me to call her just Nora, and honestly, it doesn't appeal to me on the same level as Nora Charlotte. Even though lots of people have said that they don't like the name as a double name, I'm still stuck on it. At least no one (or hardly any) seems to hate the name entirely. Plus, I think that unless the name is Mary Grace or Anna Kate, it always takes a little time to get used to a double name...right?

Hey! I'm so glad you responded because I remembered your little one's name. I just responded to Annie with the whole story of how Nora Charlotte developed, so I won't bore you by repeating it. I'm not pregnant, nor will I be any time soon, but I'm still thinking of names (that's why I'm here...I love 'em). Anyway, Charlotte's been on my list forever because my father's name is Charles, and I've always sort of thought that it would be great as the second half of a double name. For the longest time, I loved Eva Charlotte. My mom's middle name is Evaline (awful), so the Eva was after her. But after my parents got divorced, I thought it would be a little strange to have one child named after them both. Plus, I'm not sure that either of them would be overly pleased about it...pity, because I still love the name.

I really love Nora, and its significance, but I wanted honest opinions about the combination. What do you think of Nora Charlotte as a name...maybe if I just called her Nora or Nora Chase...something like that? This is all sort of moot anyway because my first two baby girls are named (far in the future though they may be), and who knows if I'll even get a third? :-)

And hey, I'm always up for suggestions! Give me something else that works with Charlotte!

Absolutely love it (to be fair, I've had this on my own someday list as well LOL). And it only seems more perfect after reading your reasoning behind it. I agree, it's wonderful with Ruth Caroline, and the subtle connections -- four-letter fns, C mns -- are great. ;)

Kelli, I SO love that you read my mind! You caught my connection without me even explaining it...of course. Glad you like the name, too!

I like the significance of Nora Charlotte, it's just that syllable thing that gets me. That's probably just my personal hang-up-- no one else seems to be bothered by it. I like Eva very much-- it's on my dh's family tree and we've considered it but with all the little Ava's running around these days, I figure it's sort of void. I like Eva Charlotte a little better than Nora Charlotte-- Nora seems to have harder sounds to me...that first N, I think. Anyway, I don't know your family tree, but Charlotte works very well as the second half of a double name (and I love double names). If you have the time, post a list of family names and I'll take a look and think about which I like best with Charlotte (have any 1 or 3 syllable names?) I also think a family surname could work in the second part of the name-- I have a friend with a little "Emily Baine"+LN, and they call her by both names. My little girl is named "Charlotte Gray"+LN and her dad often calls her Charlotte Gray, even when she's not in trouble!

love Nora Charlotte, for just saying Nora Charlotte,
but i'd hate to be the kid having to spell that out on all my school work.
