Need help. I love the name Asa. I know this is an older name for a boy, but love it for a girl's name.
Please reply and let me know if you think this name could be used for a girl's name.
Thanks

guy and girl with ASA as their name
Girl: Aja
Boy : Asa
I think of Asa as a boy's name. As a biblical name, it doesn't seem any more feminine to me than Elijah or Joseph. I also picture the male character from The Young and the Restless, so for me its image is purely masculine.
The similar name Aja is used for girls, but it's correctly pronounced like Asia, not Asa.
I'm usually extremely open-minded, but this one is distinctly male. I'm not saying- "Don't use it." I'm saying it would be like naming a girl Daniel or Andrew.
The use of names like Ryan, Dillon, or Tyler on a girl is different. They were originally surnames before they were used on boy or girl. So you see what I'm saying?
Asa has a great sound, and you are the one who has to like it. You should also put yourself in your daughter's shoes. She will be doing a lot of correcting/explaining over the years. On the other hand, she may be the stand-out type who suits it perfectly!
Have you thought about Adah (ay-duh) or Aja (asia)?
Best wishes, Ginger

I'm completely with Ginger on this one. Asa is a boy's name...and one that I'm really fond of. I do, however, adore the name Aja for a girl. It doesn't really fit with my style, but I love to hear others use it. I had a good friend in college named Aja Ophelia, and I always thought she had the most intriguing name.
Isa is also nice (EE-sah) if you're looking for the S sound. Also, I had a childhood friend named Asha (AY-shah).
After reading some of the nickname posts, it occurred to me that Asa may be quite a cute nickname for Anastasia, which is another favorite of mine. But honestly, I prefer Aja.
