Emery & Ellery

I love the sound of both of them! We must have similar taste and feel for names.

i was browsing the board and i also got flack for naming her a "boys" name. but i am sorry there is nothing masculine sounding about it to me. i also find it funny as i am browsing through how popular emerson is with the nn emmy because that is what we call emery for a nn. my response is there are female joey's, bobbie's, etc. and those sound much more "boyish" than emery does. good luck with your choice.

I agree with you...alot of my name choices do not sound very masculine to me.

Unisex or boy names for girls aren't what I would choose but I do really like some of them.

Jordyn -- my least favorite by far. This one seems the most juvenile of your choices (disclaimer: I'm referring to my experience with the name -- not you -- so please don't take offense ). It's just one of those names I remember girls discussing as "cool" back in junior high, but not one any have used now that they're adults, KWIM? Also, the Y spelling looks odd. If you want to name her Jordan, name her Jordan. ;) You may also like Jordana.

Addison -- I like Addison, but it's similarity to the ever-popular Madison makes it less appealing. I'd prefer a different Ad- name (Adeline, Adele, Addiena, etc.) or even Ainsley, if you want the A__s combo.

Ellery -- this gmv, although I prefer Eleri for a girl (not an altered spelling ... it actually has a separate origin).

Emerson -- I don't mind it, although I've been hearing it a LOT in real life (almost always paired with Rose), so it seems trendy. The big drawback for me is that it's the name of my microwave. Brand names get me. LOL

Cassidy -- I actually like Cassidy, though I agree with a pp that it might not age as well as some of the rest. Cassandra or perhaps Cassia might also appeal.

Emery -- this one's much too masculine for my taste, especially since it would so easily be confused with Emily. When a name's that popular for that long, that's what people will hear when it's something so similar, KWIM? Not to mention all the other "Em-" names for girls: Emma, Emerson (also on your list), Emeline, Emilia, Emerald, Emme/y, etc.

I couldn't vote, because these are NMSAA, but I'd like to second the excellent suggestions of Jordana, Eleri, and Cassia (which has a great namesake http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kassia). All of these are more classic and unusual, giving them a timeless appeal that the of-the-moment names on this list don't have.

If you're looking for something different, these are great choices -- none were in the top 1000 in 2005, unlike Jordan (49 for girls, 38 for boys), Jordyn (156/929), Addison (107/583), Emerson (442/584), Cassidy (189), or Emery (817). Ellery isn't in the top 1000, but 20 other 'El-' names are, including Ella at 22.

A couple of other suggestions: Emerald would be an interesting 'Em' name, and I recently came across Adelinde in a list of medieval French queens.
