I really like Luc, just as I love Luca. Here's the only thing: Did you ever see the movie "French Kiss" with Meg Ryan and Kevin Klein? Great cinema it is not, but I saw it a few years ago. Luc is Kevin Klein's character, and in the movie, he gives Meg Ryan's character lessons on how to say his name properly. There's this long, drawn-out part that pretty much consists of the following lines repeated ad nauseum:
"Luke?" "Non. Lyyyuuuuk."
So, this is what I think of when I hear/see the name Luc. This doesn't mean I don't like it...it's just what springs to mind.
If you live in the United States or another area where people are more familiar with Luke than Luc, I'd go with Luke. I think Luc could be confused for a girl's name (as a nn for Lucy or Lucia).
If you live in Canada or somewhere where there are a number of French-speaking people, Luc may work just fine.
We're in Maine and there are a lot of French Canadians here and actually, my dh works with a Luc. Originally, I had Luke on our list but now dh likes Luc better and justifies it with the famaily tree thing. I'm unsure.
I voted love it, especially in your case. It sounds like it would work fine in your area, and I don't think it's really that different or difficult, KWIM (this coming from the wife of an avid hockey fan, however LOL).
Men are notorious for shooting down the good names, so the fact that dh likes it makes it even more feasible in my book. ;)
