When you hear Lennox do you think boy or girl?

  • Boy
  • Girl
  • Not sure- unisex to me
  • Comments are welcome! Lennox is not on our list, but it's intriguing.

I think of the boxer, Lennox Lewis, so it's very masculine to me.

I too think of china dinnerware. My husband actually suggested this for our daughter and I vetoed it. He found the name in the boys section of our baby name book.

As a surname/place name, it could technically go either way, but it's always been very masculine IMO (especially with the boxer association). I've actually always quite liked it. ;)

ETA: The similarity to Lenox China doesn't bother me like many "brand" names would. Lenox was simply the surname of the company's founder, in this case (and since we already know Lennox/Lenox is a surname based on a place name, that should come as no surprise). Not quite the same as seeing Emerson on your microwave and thinking "hmm, that's pretty! I think I'll name my baby that," or naming your dd Alexus Mercedes after being stuck in traffic. (Only using Emerson because it IS the name on my microwave ... nothing against the name itself). :)

LOL, our microwave is Emerson too, and DH keeps saying he likes Emerson for a boy! He got the name from a book he's reading, not the microwave, but I have repeatedly told him NO! That is funny.

Good point about the Lenox brand connection, that does make sense that it was someone's name, unlike others like Nike, Camry, etc. that people give as names!!!

My first assoc. is the boxer. It's not on the list at this point, but I'm pondering it...

Aw, I do like Emerson for a boy. And I love Emery and Emmett ... perhaps those would also appeal to him -- and avoid the microwave association? ;)

Lennox is one I've always liked. A nice mixture of "cool"/interesting and familiar. Obviously everyone's heard it, and it's similar to some others that are popular (whether through use or association ... think Maddox and all the Max- names), but it's not common in the least.

Sounds like you have the workings of a great list. What others are actually on it at this point (sorry if it's in another thread ... I can't recall)?

My problem with Emerson is that it's popular for girls now, and some of them even do the Emersyn spelling (ew). I like Emmett- I'll bring it up w/ DH. I also like Ellis.

Right now, we have a strange mix on our list. DH would like to name our sons Joseph David and Edward Hugh/ Edward Harrison b/c those are all family names. He desperately wants to name a son after his dad (Joe David), and the other name is my dad and grandpa's names in order to not have only 1 child w/ family names. I really do not like any of these names except for David (DH- so I don't want that) and Hugh/ Harrison. I do not like Joseph, plus my FIL, stepFIL, and DH's BIL are named Joe! I feel like it's way too much. I would rather do a first name that we choose, and do the family names for mn. We're still negotiating (which is OK since we won't even TTC for at least another year, lol).

The other boys names are:
Wesley
Beckett
Xavier
William
Carson

DH likes Logan, Bryndan (ick) as well but not me! He tends to find names in books he reads (which are kind of fantasy/medieval type books). That is the case w/ Bryndan, and Aria for a girl.

I like Theodore, Thaddeus, Thatcher, Tyson but DH vetoed these.

We tend to like English names, I'm currently trying to look for more occupational names b/c last night DH mentioned Logan and Hunter (too common for me) but maybe if I can find some others in the same genre we might agree on something else. We have the hardest times w/ boys!!! I'm kinda hoping for only girls, haha!

Thanks for the feedback on Lennox, and for lending an "ear"!

Liz

I actually like quite a lot of those -- and love Hugh, Ellis, Wesley and Thatcher, especially (I've had all of them on a list at some point). ;)

Similar to Thatcher, maybe dh would prefer Fletcher? Seems to fit the type of name you're looking for perfectly, and it seems your dh doesn't like the T names (LOL), so it might be a good compromise. Also, Lachlan is similar to Logan without the popularity, and Hagan or Hogan might also work (almost a combination of Hunter and Logan, which your dh likes, but not nearly as common).

Sawyer/Sayer, Baxter and Dexter are some other occupational names that might appeal.

LOL, I brought up Fletcher last night after he asked me about Hunter and Logan, and he said no. He is so hard to deal with sometimes! I think I've brought up Lachlan before, but it's worth a second try (sometimes he forgets and likes it more the 2nd time- haha).

I hadn't thought about Hagan/Hogan. I will definitely think about those. Sawyer is another that I like, but I'm afraid it's becoming too popular here. I know a couple of little boys 2 or under with that name (and actually one teenager too). It's funny how I don't know any kids with some names that are supposed to be super popular (like Emma), yet some of the names I see (like Sawyer, also Hayes) are not as popular in other places. Hard to gauge the actual popularity, KWIM?

Thanks for the suggestions!
