I voted Margaret Rita just b/c Margaret is such an awesome name but I'm not sure that -ret Rita is the best flow. Have you considered other middle names?

I love both Katherine and Margaret, but I voted for Katherine.

I voted for Katherine, but not without hesitation. I love Violet, that would have beat out the others by far, but only in that spelling. I'm really not fond of the -ette ending. So Katherine won, and Margaret is a close second except that Margaret Rita strikes me as odd because Rita is derived from the Spanish form of Margaret, Margarita. Maybe most people wouldn't notice that, but to me it is redundant. Leigh-Anne is not my style, though I like Liane much better and Eliane quite a lot. I'm guessing Rita is after a friend or family member, as you seem attached to it. Unfortunately, to my ear it doesn't flow very well with your first name choices, especially Margaret and Leigh-Anne. You might also consider other variations of the name to honour someone, perhaps simply Margaret which you obviously like, or Margarita, or even Pearl, which is the meaning of the name. There are many, many other forms (Maggie, Megan, Marjorie, Peggy, Marguerite and Margot, to name a few).

I already posted about Margaret and Rita being basically the same name (in a separate thread, before I saw your poll), and I see I'm not the only one aware of that, so I'm afraid I would nix that particular combo. It'd be pretty much like naming a child Elizabeth Betty or Dorothy Thea. Margaret, nn Rita for your grandmother, with a different mn would be lovely, however.

Unlike the others, I don't like the -rine/Rit- sounds back-to-back in Katherine Rita, and Leigh-Anne is nms, so Violette Rita gmv.

Well, my attachment to Rita exactly as it is is quite strong. My late grandmother was the matriarch of my family, and it will mean a great deal to me and the rest of my family for my first daughter to bear her name. My problem is that DH doesn't like the name Rita, so we've compromised with it being

Just curious...do you call your son Howard, or is he Quinn/Quint (since he's the fifth). Or does he have another nickname?

I'm so fascinated when families carry on names for this long. I babysit for twins, one of which is Leon Yelvington Sadler, V. On a side note, he has a new baby sister named Margaret.

For what it's worth (likely not much since she will be YOUR baby!), I love Catherine instead of Katherine. For some reason, just the prospect of being able to call her Cate really excites me. But, I just like C names (hence, Caroline, Camilla, Claudia, and Clara being on my list).

Katherine Rita is a great choice! You can never go wrong with a classic and it fits so well with your sons name.

Good luck,
Brooke

We just call him Howie. Even though both my husband and FIL share his name it's never really a problem for me because I call my FIL Howie, My DH "babe", and the baby "little man" or "bubba". tee hee.

I can get on board with Catherine instead of Katherine. It seems to look nicer. My Silpada sponsor's name is Catherine, I hope she doesn't think I named the baby after her!

Well, there's always Katharine or Catharine, if you want to spell it differently than her name. For some reason, replacing the E with an A seems to emphasize that the name actually has 3 syllables instead of 2, which is why I am not a fan of Kathryn...cuts out part of the name.

And whatever you call him, Howie is one cute baby boy!
